XYO is the cryptographic proof layer for the real world, collecting, validating, and delivering physical-world data to AI, robotics, Web3, and enterprise systems. XYO, the original Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN), has been operating since 2018 and now has more than 10 million nodes worldwide.
At the core of XYO is XYO Layer One, a scalable data blockchain built to support high-volume data industries such as AI, robotics, location intelligence, and real-world asset (RWA) systems. Designed for high throughput and low transaction costs, it gives these data-intensive applications the capacity to process and validate information across massive datasets. XYO Layer One anchors XYO's Proof of Location and Proof of Origin technologies, establishing a verified origin, precise timing, and trusted source behind every piece of data. This verified data directly feeds the XYO AI SDK, a product built by XYO to provide accessibility for developers to build AI-powered applications, autonomous agents, robotics integrations and more using real-world data.
What makes the project unique?
XYO's nodes span a diverse range of devices, including IoT sensors, mobile devices, and dedicated network hardware, with participation extending to consumer apps such as [COIN app] (https://coinapp.co), a mobile app powered by XYO technology. This network aggregates a range of data types, including detectable heuristic data, human-reported data such as behavioral patterns and opinions, and camera-based eyewitness evidence, then makes that aggregated data available to third-party partners. What sets XYO apart is the ability to selectively mobilize all or part of the network through incentives, allowing partners to target specific demographics or locations for data collection, promotions, or tasks, rather than relying solely on passive data gathering. XYO Layer One blockchain and the XYO AI SDK extend these capabilities further, giving AI, robotics, and enterprise applications direct access to this verified, on-demand real-world data at scale.
What can the token be used for?
XYO is used for staking, governance, and network incentives across the XYO ecosystem. Token holders can also stake XYO on XYO Layer One to earn XL1, XYO’s native utility token. The extensive 10 million plus node operators worldwide contributing real world data to the network are compensated in XYO. The data collected supports applications across AI, robotics, real-world asset tracking, geospatial analytics and more. Through XYO and its infrastructure, developers, AI agents, and organizations can access this verified data, grounded in real-world conditions rather than static or synthetic datasets. Use cases range from urban planning and logistics to real-world gaming and treasure hunts, reflecting the breadth of industries that depend on trusted, real-time physical-world data.
The XYO - XL1 Dual Token Ecosystem
XYO employs a unique dual-token model:
XYO Token: An externally traded token supporting the DePIN ecosystem, rewards, staking, and governance, enhancing overall ecosystem value and scarcity.
XL1 Token: Internal to the XYO Layer One blockchain, facilitating transactions, gas fees, and other blockchain-specific use cases.
XYO can be staked in the XYO Layer One blockchain to earn XL1 tokens.
The dual-token economics are strategically designed to increase scarcity and promote sustainable growth. The XYO token has been available on major exchanges since 2018. Major exchanges include Coinbase and Revolut. The XL1 token is now also available.
History of the project
XYO's inception took place in January 2018 the pioneering DePIN project. Drawing on their expertise, co-founders Arie Trouw and Markus Levin identified a need for a trustless, decentralized location oracle, and with that, the XYO token was launched in March 2018.
In February 2022, XYO expanded beyond its original location-based focus to aggregate and analyze a broader range of heuristic and digital data. This shift moved XYO from a location-specific protocol into a wider data infrastructure role, built around data sovereignty, provenance, and permanence.
In September 2025, XYO launched XYO Layer One, a dedicated blockchain built to support high-throughput, data-intensive applications across AI, robotics, geolocation, and real-world asset systems.Alongside XYO Layer One, XYO launched XL1 in September 2025, the native utility token powering transaction and gas fees on the XYO Layer One blockchain.
In May 2026, XYO launched the XYO AI SDK, bringing its verified real-world data infrastructure directly into the AI economy. The SDK gives developers, autonomous agents, and organizations the tools to build AI-powered applications backed by trusted, verifiable data from the physical world.
Today, XYO continues to expand its infrastructure with developments such as a quantum-resistant wallet, the XYO Layer One bridge, and XYO Crypto Cards, alongside partnerships and integrations with companies including Gate and Theta Labs.
