 Aptos Foundation has announced a new initiative in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud to promote smart contract programming languages in Japan, signalling an increased focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

The partnership,<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://aptosfoundation.org/currents/aptos-foundation-and-alibaba-cloud-unite-to-boost-web3-in-japan?data=76897crypto8833234news8979878" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> revealed in a blog post</a> by the Foundation on June 28, aims to strengthen Japan’s blockchain ecosystem and improve regional accessibility in APAC.
The collaboration has led to the creation of Alcove, a co-branded developer community focused on promoting the Move programming language. Alcove’s inaugural event will be a meetup co-hosted by OKCoin Japan and Alibaba Cloud, showcasing the practical benefits of web3 and digital assets in Japan.
In addition to meetups, the Aptos Foundation noted plans to organize a series of hackathons for the Alcove community to educate locals about blockchain technology’s potential.
Bashar Lazaar, head of grants and ecosystem at Aptos Foundation, noted that both organizations aim to foster an environment conducive to Japan’s growing interest in web3 and intellectual property strengths.
This partnership aligns with Alibaba’s strategic diversification into the blockchain sector. In September 2023, Ant Group Digital Technologies, a subsidiary of the Alibaba Group,<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230907788903/en/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> launched</a> ZAN, a brand offering blockchain development tools. ZAN provides various products and services for both institutional and individual web3 developers, including solutions for issuing and managing real-world assets (RWAs) on the blockchain, compliant with local regulations.
On the other end, the partnership builds on Aptos’s drive to expand its global footprint and promote blockchain adoption across diverse markets. The company<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/02/aptos-partners-with-jambo-to-launch-99-smartphone-and-increase-access-to-crypto-in-emerging-markets/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> recently partnered with Jambo</a>, an African smartphone manufacturer, to launch the JamboPhone, a smartphone designed as an entry point to the Aptos ecosystem.
The device is priced at $99, runs on Android 13, and comes with pre-installed blockchain applications such as Petra and the Jambo App. It is available in over 40 countries and is promoted as a tool to improve accessibility to cryptocurrencies and web3 technologies, especially in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
