About Agoras: Tau Net

What Is Agoras (AGRS)?

Agoras is the native currency of Tau, and it’s designed as money you can program. Terms can be attached to the funds themselves, in the same plain language used for account rules. These terms can set how fast it can be spent, what it can be spent on, when it comes back and when it stops existing. For example, you can send 2,000 AGRS that can only be spent at 500 a week, or send funds to a brother so that anything unspent returns after 30 days. You can also send a donation that can only be spent on registered charitable purposes, and that restriction stays with the funds even if they’re passed on. Because the terms travel with the money, they’re enforced wherever it goes, and no one has to remember to follow up.

What Is Tau?

Tau is a wallet and financial system currently in development. None of the features described here are available yet. They will first become available with the Tau alpha testnet. Users will describe what an account should and shouldn’t be allowed to do, in their own words, and Tau will turn that into a rule. For example: “only send to my two children,” “anything over $5,000 needs a second approval,” or “let me recall a payment within 8 hours.” The account will enforce these rules on every transaction, even if someone steals the key. The aim is to bring back protections that banks offer and crypto wallets lack, such as holds, reversals, spending caps and account recovery, without handing money to anyone. At mainnet, Tau itself is designed to be governed by its community. Its users will set and change the network’s rules the same way they set rules for their own accounts, with every proposed change checked for consistency before it takes effect.

What is Agoras: Tau Net?

Agoras (AGRS) is the native token and gas for activity on Tau Net. It features adaptive tokenomics controlled by Projects, DAOs, and Users. AGRS is used to: • Pay for computation and transaction fees • Trade between DApps and AI agents • Participate in markets across the network • Lock or burn to reduce fees or increase project earnings • Delegate to validators for rewards

What Makes Agoras Unique?

Most tokens move the same way no matter who holds them or why. With Agoras, the conditions are part of the money. Every rule in Tau, whether it’s attached to an account or to funds, is checked against every other rule in the system before it applies. So a new rule can’t quietly contradict or weaken an existing one. Rules can also govern how other rules are changed, and some can be made permanent so that no one, including their creator, can remove them. Recipients have control too: their own rules can automatically refuse incoming funds that carry restrictions they don’t accept. Tau is specified in Tau Language, a decidable formal language, which is what makes this kind of consistency checking possible. It is developed in a research partnership with the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

Who Are the Founders of Tau?

Tau was founded by Ohad Asor and is developed by IDNI AG, a company based in Liechtenstein.

How Many AGRS Tokens Are There?

Agoras has a maximum supply of 42,000,000 AGRS.

Does the Current AGRS Token Have These Features?

No. The AGRS token available today is an ERC-20 placeholder and does not include any of the features described on this page. It is intended to be swapped for the mainnet Agoras coin once Tau’s mainnet is ready. The features described here are planned for mainnet and are still in development.

Is the Current AGRS Token the Final Version?

No. The AGRS token available today is a placeholder. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and has none of the features described on this page. The programmable currency features belong to the mainnet Agoras coin, which is still in development. Once mainnet launches, the ERC-20 AGRS token is intended to be swapped for the mainnet Agoras coin.

Where Can You Buy Agoras (AGRS)?

AGRS is available on Uniswap, MEXC, WhiteBIT and 1inch, and can also be bought with a card.
