VeThor Token (VTHO) is the gas token of VeChainThor, VeChain's Layer-1 blockchain. It pays for every transaction, token transfer and smart-contract call on the network.
VeChainThor uses two tokens. VET is the native asset used for staking and network security; VTHO is the fuel used to run the network. Keeping them separate means the cost of using VeChainThor is not tied directly to VET's market price.
How Is VTHO Generated?
Since the Hayabusa upgrade on December 2, 2025, VTHO is generated only by actively staked VET. Holding VET in a wallet no longer generates VTHO.
Validators self-stake at least 25 million VET and run block-producing infrastructure.
Delegators stake VET through StarGate and delegate their staking NFT to a validator.
Block rewards are paid in VTHO and split by default 30% to the validator and 70% to its delegators. Validators also keep priority fees. Issuance is dynamic: it depends on how much VET is staked and on protocol parameters, and rewards are not fixed or guaranteed.
How Many VeThor Token (VTHO) Tokens Are There?
VTHO has no fixed maximum supply. New VTHO is issued through staking rewards, and the base fee of every transaction is burned, a mechanism introduced by the Galactica upgrade in July 2025. Net supply therefore depends on staking levels and network activity.
What Makes VTHO Useful?
Fee delegation: apps and businesses can pay VTHO fees on behalf of their users, so users can use VeChain apps without holding VTHO.
Predictable costs: fees are priced in VTHO through an EIP-1559-style fee market, so the cost of a transaction does not move with VET's price.
Everyday use: VTHO powers activity across the ecosystem, including the VeWorld wallet, StarGate staking and VeBetter apps.
