What Is Walken (WLKN)?

Walken (WLKN) is a P2E blockchain game on the Solana network that combines sports and NFTs. It allows users to earn from walking, moving and exercising — to promote healthy lifestyles.

Walken has similar mechanics to popular DApp STEPN and combines the popular GameFi concepts: Play2Earn and Exercise2Earn, also known as Move2Earn or Walk2Earn. The game was developed for mobile devices, where users own NFT game characters (CAThletes), earn in-app tokens (GEM), and compete to win WLKN – the native token of the Walken ecosystem, receiving rewards for training and playing.

The project is integrated with DeFi platforms, encouraging novice players to use decentralized services, benefiting from the gaming experience and motivating them to earn more from an active lifestyle. The team plans to enhance the protocol by adding a DeFi wallet and a feature that enables developers to deploy dApps.

As of mid-2022, the developers claimed to have approximately 50 million downloads and $10 million in annual revenue.

Who Are the Founders of Walken?

The team behind the Appyfurious and Getfit apps develops Walken. The company was co-founded in 2021 by Alexei Kulevets (CEO), Alexei Porodzinsky (BizDev Director), and Konstantin Kozlovsky (Product Director). According to the official website, the project's roadmap originates from Q1 2022.

The strategic partners and investors list includes Huobi Ventures, DEX Ventures, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Moonchain Capital, Shima Capital, Genblock Capital, Morningstar Ventures, Big Brain Holdings, NFT Tech and Yield Guild Games.

What Makes Walken Unique?

Walken (WLKN) works as follows:

The gameplay focuses on improving CAThletes and entering competitions to earn WLKN tokens. CAThlete is an NFT in-game character whose name is made up of "cat" and "athlete" about the character's appearance and the game's theme. Each CAThlete consists of a set of genes that affect the appearance, characteristics, and rarity of the NFT. All CAThlete avatars are primarily non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can be bought/sold on marketplaces.

Users walk the distance in real life, and their steps convert into GEM, an in-game currency that impacts the CAThlete level indicator (1 GEM = 1000 steps). GEM can be earned through training and used to upgrade character attributes in the mobile app.

The more steps a player takes, the more GEM coins he earns by leveling up his character and pumping his characteristics (strength, speed, endurance). The higher the CAThlete stats, the more chances a player has to win competitions and earn WLKN. Therefore, the player's main task is to earn rewards in the form of WLKN tokens for training and playing. WLKN tokens can also be acquired on exchanges or DEXs.

Walken has two game modes:

Walk. The mobile app uses the phone's motion tracking (GPS function) and step-counting capabilities to incentivize players to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The app syncs received Apple Healthkit / Android Health data and converts steps to GEM.

Player versus player (PvP). The algorithm responsible for the battles selects opponents randomly, considering the player's level. The chances of winning increase with the growth of the game character's skills, and the number of tokens received as a result of winning depends on the level of CAThlete.

Each new user has access to a catalog of characters to choose from and receives a free CAThlete with limited lives per day (one battle = one life). Players can also obtain CAThlete from the built-in NFT marketplace or cross-breed two CATheles to get a third character.

The Walken app has a simple interface and easy interaction with DeFi protocols. The project's ultimate mission is to build a highly functional application ecosystem and attract as many users as possible to the world of cryptocurrency.

WLKN is a native token of the NFT game with governance and staking capabilities. Players can earn WLKN by competing with others or purchase it directly on a cryptocurrency exchange.

How Is the Walken Network Secured?

Walken (WLKN) is powered by Solana (SOL), which relies on a combination of Proof-of-History (PoH) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanisms. PoH is the main component of the protocol that processes the bulk of the network's transactions, recording successful operations and time between them, while PoS is used as a monitoring tool for running PoH processes.

On top of that, Walken (WLKN) has been audited by Certik, a blockchain security firm for blockchain protocols and DeFi projects.
