AntSeed is an open-source peer-to-peer protocol designed to connect users directly with independent providers of artificial intelligence services. The protocol uses a peer-to-peer network for service discovery and the Base blockchain for payments and other on-chain functions. Independent providers can make AI models, APIs, agents and other AI-related services available through the network, while users can select providers based on factors such as price, latency, reputation, capability and privacy requirements.
Users can access AntSeed through the command-line interface or other compatible clients. AntSeed exposes OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible APIs through a local endpoint, allowing existing AI applications and development tools to connect to services available through the network without materially changing their existing workflows. A local router manages provider discovery and routing, while requests are transmitted directly to the selected provider through the peer-to-peer network.
Providers participate independently and determine the services, models, pricing, policies and infrastructure they make available. The protocol includes signed identities and usage records, provider staking and on-chain reputation mechanisms intended to provide participants with additional information regarding provider activity and service history. Providers remain responsible for the services they offer and for compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to their activities.
Payments for paid AI services are made in USDC on Base. Buyers deposit USDC into an on-chain smart contract and authorize a limited amount to be spent for each session. Providers are paid based on services actually delivered and authorized by the buyer. Communications, identities and payment authorizations use cryptographic verification, while settlement is recorded on-chain. AntSeed currently applies a 4% protocol fee to settled AI services, with providers receiving the remaining amount. The protocol fee is accumulated in a separate protocol reserve contract and is not received or controlled by the AntSeed Foundation.
ANTS is the ERC-20 utility and coordination token of the AntSeed ecosystem and is deployed on Base mainnet. It is used within the protocol's incentive, staking, reputation and participation mechanisms. ANTS emissions are linked to eligible network activity rather than simply to token ownership. Depending on the applicable protocol rules, eligible participants may receive ANTS in connection with activities such as staking, purchasing services, providing services and verification. Reward eligibility is subject to activity and anti-abuse controls intended to limit artificial usage, fake volume and other forms of reward farming.
ANTS has a maximum supply of 1.04 billion tokens. New ANTS are generated progressively through the protocol's emissions system and cannot be minted through a general administrative minting function outside that system. Under the current parameters, the initial theoretical emission budget is 5,000,000 ANTS per weekly epoch and is reduced by half every 104 epochs. The resulting theoretical emission schedule extends for approximately 16 years. Actual emissions and circulating supply may be lower because rewards depend on eligible network activity and unused emissions may be burned or redirected in accordance with the protocol rules.
The AntSeed Foundation is a Gibraltar private foundation that supports the development and growth of the AntSeed ecosystem. Its activities may include supporting open-source development, technical infrastructure, security initiatives, grants, ecosystem programmes and legal, regulatory and operational activities. The AntSeed protocol and ANTS token were established before the formation of the Foundation, and the AntSeed Foundation is not the issuer of ANTS. Independent service providers remain responsible for the AI services they provide through the network.
