MultiversX is a blockchain protocol that seeks to offer extremely fast transaction speeds by using sharding. The project describes itself as a technology ecosystem for the new internet, which includes fintech, decentralized finance and the Internet of Things. Its smart contracts execution platform is reportedly capable of 15,000 transactions per second, six-second latency and a $0.001 transaction cost.

MultiversX rewards the community and active participants with EGLD tokens. EGLD, or Electronic Gold, is MultiversX's native token. It acts as a store of value currency to pay for network usage. The coin also serves as a medium of exchange between platform users and validators. Users pay transaction fees in EGLD and validators provide services.

EGLD allows developers to deploy smart contracts, protocols, and dApps on the platform. It empowers participants to perform any network action. Through staking and validation rewards, as well as transaction fees, EGLD manages the MultiversX network. Plus, EGLD is endowed with the functionality of a governance token, so its holders can vote on network decisions.

MultiversX was first announced in August 2019, and its mainnet went live in July 2020.

Auroracoin (AUR) emerged as a pioneering digital currency, crafted to serve as an Icelandic alternative to both Bitcoin and the national currency, the Icelandic króna. Launched on January 24, 2014, it was introduced by an enigmatic figure or group under the pseudonym Baldur Friggjar Óðinsson. A distinctive feature of Auroracoin was its national ID enforced airdrop, a first in the cryptocurrency world, which aimed to distribute half of its total supply of 21 million coins to Iceland's 330,000 citizens.

The airdrop unfolded in three phases, starting on March 25, 2014, with 31.8 auroracoins per claimant in Phase I. Phases II and III followed, offering 318 and 636 auroracoins per claimant, respectively, concluding in 2015. Of the 10.5 million premined coins, around 40% were claimed by citizens, while 10% were allocated to the Auroracoin Foundation (M1 fund). The remaining 50% of the premined coins were intentionally destroyed, with the transaction verifiable through a specific burn address.

As of 2025, Auroracoin continues to thrive with active development and community engagement. The project remains a testament to the potential of cryptocurrencies in redefining national economies and fostering financial independence.
