Ripple is broadening the reach of its stablecoin, RLUSD, through a strategic partnership with global liquidity and settlement platform Arf. The agreement targets the provision of RLUSD-backed settlement liquidity on the XRP Ledger, aiming to enhance cross-border transaction efficiency.

Short-Term Liquidity for Payment Companies

The collaboration is designed to facilitate easier access to short-term working capital for licensed payment companies engaged in cross-border transactions. By providing RLUSD liquidity during transaction settlements, these companies may no longer need to maintain substantial capital reserves across different markets, thus streamlining operations.

Ripple, a technology company renowned for developing blockchain-based payment infrastructures, has been focusing on partnerships that promote the adoption of RLUSD. Meanwhile, Arf stands out in providing liquidity and settlement solutions for payment institutions.

Enhancing Capital Efficiency

A major challenge being addressed by the two firms is capital lock-in, a long-debated issue in the global payments sector. Traditionally, businesses keep substantial funds across different countries and currencies to ensure smooth transactions. The new model is expected to alleviate this burden, allowing for more flexible capital use.

Under the partnership, Arf will provide direct RLUSD settlement liquidity on the XRP Ledger. This means licensed payment service providers can finance transactions without having to hold large amounts of capital during the settlement waiting period.

Arf’s settlement liquidity model aims to reuse the same capital continuously, promoting a smoother cross-border payment structure between companies.

Settlement Period Ranges from One to Five Days

This structure allows for a repayment period ranging from one to five days, enabling the repeated redeployment of the same funds. Companies can maintain a more efficient transaction flow by reusing capital once payments are completed.

The model aims to deliver operational efficiency in stablecoin-backed cross-border payments, primarily by reducing the necessity of pre-funding in diverse markets. A potential decrease in this requirement could allow payment companies to exhibit greater flexibility in balance sheet management.
