As Wall Street steps into crypto’s territory, is the future of Web3 still just about tokens and exchanges?
On October 7–8, 2026, TOKEN2049 Singapore brought the global Web3 industry together for one of its biggest annual gatherings. But beyond the usual conversations about token prices, trading activity, and market cycles, this year’s event reflected a more significant shift: traditional financial institutions and crypto-native companies are increasingly focused on the same financial infrastructure challenges.
Representatives from Nasdaq, BlackRock, and Franklin Templeton appeared alongside Web3 leaders from Binance, Hyperliquid, Solana, and other major ecosystems. Meanwhile, institutional finance, asset tokenization, and on-chain settlement featured prominently in the broader conversation.
Together, these developments point to an important possibility:
The next era of Web3 competition may be less about capturing crypto users and liquidity — and more about building the infrastructure that will power the future of digital finance.

1. What Does Wall Street’s Growing Presence at TOKEN2049 Really Mean?

For years, traditional finance and crypto largely operated in separate worlds.
Banks, stock exchanges, and asset managers relied on established financial systems to facilitate trading, custody, and settlement. Public blockchains, DeFi protocols, and crypto exchanges, meanwhile, sought to create a more open and programmable financial ecosystem.
That divide is beginning to narrow.
Traditional financial institutions are exploring tokenization. Stablecoins are expanding into payment and settlement use cases. Institutional investors are taking a closer look at DeFi.
As a result, blockchain is gradually evolving beyond its original role in crypto markets toward a broader foundation for financial services.
What makes TOKEN2049 2026 significant is not simply that Wall Street is joining the Web3 conversation. It’s that traditional finance and crypto are increasingly trying to solve the same problems.
How can settlement become faster and more efficient? How can assets move more freely? How can different financial systems communicate? And how can identity verification and regulatory compliance work within open networks?
These questions go far beyond token trading.

2. Web3 Competition Is Moving Beyond Tokens and Into Real Financial Activity

For much of Web3’s history, projects have been evaluated through a familiar set of metrics:
Token Price · TVL · Trading Volume · TPS
These numbers tell us something about market activity, capital, and technical performance. But they don’t fully capture whether a blockchain can support real-world financial operations.
As RWA, stablecoins, and institutional DeFi continue to develop, a broader set of requirements is emerging:

Tokenization: Representing and transferring real-world assets in digital form on blockchain networks.

Settlement: Making transactions and fund transfers more efficient and transparent.

Identity & Compliance: Verifying participants, eligibility, and required authorizations.

Interoperability: Connecting blockchains, applications, and existing financial systems.

This suggests a fundamental shift in the direction of Web3:
Crypto Trading → On-Chain Finance → Real-World Financial Infrastructure
Transaction throughput still matters. But the more important question is becoming:
Can a blockchain support assets, identities, capital, and applications working together within a trusted digital environment?

3. The Next Generation of Web3 Infrastructure Needs More Than Speed

If the early competition in Web3 centered on performance and transaction costs, the next phase will increasingly test how well different infrastructure capabilities work together.
Consider an on-chain RWA transaction. A blockchain can verify that a token has been transferred, but real-world financial operations must also establish the legal rights associated with the asset, the eligibility of the participants, and the relevant settlement and compliance requirements.
Stablecoins present a similar challenge. They can enable fast transfers, but widespread commercial adoption also depends on effective connections to identity systems, payment infrastructure, risk controls, and other networks.
In other words, the next generation of Web3 infrastructure needs more than higher TPS. It needs an integrated set of capabilities:
Scalability + Identity + Privacy + Compliance + Interoperability
This helps explain why modular blockchains, decentralized identity, privacy-preserving technologies, and cross-chain interoperability are becoming increasingly important areas of development.
The most competitive blockchain of the future may not be the one that leads in a single performance metric, but the one that brings these capabilities together to support sustainable, real-world applications.

4. Meta Earth: A Vision Aligned With the Next Generation of Web3 Infrastructure

The industry shift reflected at TOKEN2049 2026 also offers a useful perspective on Meta Earth’s long-term technology strategy.
Rather than focusing exclusively on transaction performance, Meta Earth is developing an integrated approach through ME Network and ME ID Protocol, bringing together network scalability, digital identity, privacy, and ecosystem interoperability.
Its core technology directions include:

Modular Architecture: ME Network uses a layered modular architecture that separates Execution, Settlement, and Data Availability & Consensus, creating a foundation for network scalability and application development.

Verifiable Identity: ME ID Protocol combines DID, Proof of Personhood, KYC, and Verifiable Credentials to establish verifiable connections between real people and on-chain activity.

Privacy Protection: By incorporating technologies such as Zero-Knowledge Proofs, Meta Earth explores ways to verify necessary identity information while minimizing the exposure of sensitive personal data.

Interoperability: Through modular design and cross-chain interoperability capabilities, Meta Earth aims to improve connectivity among networks, assets, and applications.

These are not directions Meta Earth adopted in response to TOKEN2049. They have already been part of its broader technical architecture and development roadmap.
From this perspective, Meta Earth’s strategy closely aligns with Web3’s transition from crypto markets toward a broader digital economy, reflecting a forward-looking approach to the infrastructure requirements of the next phase.
Of course, the long-term value of any technical architecture must ultimately be demonstrated through continued development, ecosystem adoption, and real-world use cases.
TOKEN2049 2026 may have revealed more than a narrowing gap between Wall Street and the crypto industry.
It also raises a more fundamental question:
As blockchain becomes increasingly connected to global finance and the real economy, what kind of infrastructure will define the next era of Web3?
The answer may not be a single high-performance blockchain, a particular token, or even a new financial product. It may be digital infrastructure that brings together performance, identity, privacy, compliance, and interoperability in a coherent and scalable way.
That is the direction Meta Earth continues to pursue through ME Network and ME ID Protocol.
The next era of Web3 competition isn’t just about bringing more assets on-chain. It’s about making blockchain capable of connecting with the real world.
