Digital Asset Investor believes XRP investors risk making a costly mistake when they lose patience during extended periods of low price activity.
In a recent video, he shared a warning from Vandell of Black Swan Capitalist, who pointed to XRP’s lengthy consolidation before its historic rally in 2017 and 2018.
The comparison raises an important question for holders watching the market struggle to sustain upward momentum: how long are they willing to wait for another major move?

Vandell Highlights XRP’s Previous Consolidation

In the video attached to his X post, Digital Asset Investor endorsed Vandell’s message and encouraged newcomers to cryptocurrency to pay attention to it. He then played Vandell’s explanation of why investors should avoid becoming impatient when prices remain stagnant for extended periods.
“Losing patience during market stagnation is a novice mistake,” Vandell stated, emphasizing the importance of understanding XRP’s historical price movements before making decisions based on short-term performance.
Vandell referenced XRP’s consolidation period before its substantial rally in 2017 and 2018. He noted that the cryptocurrency traded within a relatively narrow range for roughly two years before experiencing a macro expansion phase that produced gains of approximately 62,000%, according to his chart.
The attached TradingView chart illustrates that period. XRP spent much of 2015 through 2017 trading at low prices before breaking out and climbing sharply toward its 2018 peak. The chart measures the expansion at 62,086.72%, showing the scale of the historical move.
Vandell used that example to explain why extended periods of limited price movement do not necessarily determine an asset’s long-term performance. He also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of cryptocurrency markets, noting that significant price movements can eventually follow prolonged periods of inactivity.

Digital Asset Investor Expects Another Major Move

Digital Asset Investor agreed with Vandell’s assessment and reinforced the message for XRP holders who may be frustrated by the current market environment.
In the video, Vandell expressed confidence that another period of strong activity could eventually arrive. He also said he intended to remain invested in watching the market through its downturns and recoveries, drawing on his experience observing previous cycles.
However, the historical comparison does not establish that XRP will repeat its 2017–2018 performance. Market conditions, liquidity, investor behavior and other factors can change between cycles. The chart documents XRP’s previous rally, but it does not establish when another expansion might occur or how large it could be.

XRP Community Members Offer Different Views

Responses to Vandell’s post reflected both optimism and caution. Perseverance expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of another rally, writing, “The next expansion will be super exciting.”
Biggrobb70 pointed to the timing of an official account’s appearance during the quiet period, suggesting that it might be significant. The comment did not establish whether the timing had any connection to future price movements.
Apache XRP, however, questioned whether the previous cycle offers a reliable comparison. The commenter noted that the market has changed since 2017 and 2018, citing concerns about corruption and the influence of market makers.
The contrasting reactions reflect the central issue behind Vandell’s message: patience may help investors navigate prolonged consolidation, but historical performance alone cannot guarantee another rally. Digital Asset Investor’s endorsement ultimately reinforces the importance of understanding previous market cycles without treating them as a promise of future returns.
