Polymarket has launched five-minute up/down markets for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP on its US app, according to a breaking alert from WatcherGuru. The move extends Polymarket's short-duration prediction market format to four of the largest crypto assets by market capitalization, giving US app users a new way to take positions on near-term price direction.

Polymarket Brings 5-Minute Crypto Up/Down Markets to Its US App

Per the WatcherGuru announcement, the five-minute markets cover BTC, ETH, SOL, and XRP and are available through Polymarket's US app. The announcement does not specify a formal launch date, exact trading terms, settlement methodology, or geographic eligibility beyond the US app designation. For related coverage, see Kalshi Expands 15-Minute Markets Beyond Crypto With Gold and Silver.

Polymarket has been expanding its product line through 2026. The platform previously launched Protocol V2 and opened new markets, signaling a broader push to bring structured prediction markets to a wider user base. The five-minute format represents a notably shorter resolution window than most prediction markets, which typically settle over days, weeks, or months.

Which Crypto Assets Are Included?

The announcement names four assets covered by the new five-minute up/down markets.

Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and the most traded digital asset globally. Its inclusion signals that Polymarket is targeting the highest-liquidity assets for this short-duration format, where price resolution within a five-minute window depends on observable spot market movement.

Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum is the second-largest cryptocurrency and the backbone of the decentralized application ecosystem. ETH's inclusion alongside BTC gives users access to two assets with deep spot and derivatives markets, both of which see active price movement within short intervals. Polymarket's infrastructure upgrade, including the ERC-1155 positions contract and pUSD collateral system introduced in V2, underpins the platform's ability to settle positions efficiently.

Solana (SOL)

Solana is a high-throughput blockchain that has seen sustained retail and institutional interest through 2025 and 2026. SOL's inclusion alongside the two largest assets by market cap reflects Polymarket's intent to cover assets with both high trading volume and broad name recognition among US retail participants.

XRP

XRP, the native asset of the XRP Ledger, rounds out the four markets. XRP has been a high-volume, frequently traded asset and is among the most recognized names in crypto for US retail investors. Its inclusion alongside BTC, ETH, and SOL completes a set of assets spanning proof-of-work, proof-of-stake, and alternative consensus models.

How Five-Minute Up/Down Markets Work

An up/down market asks a single binary question: will the price of an asset be higher or lower than its starting price at the end of the defined interval? Participants take a position on one of two outcomes, and the market resolves when the interval closes.

What the Five-Minute Window Means

A five-minute resolution window is among the shortest timeframes used in structured prediction markets. It means a market opens, accepts positions, and resolves within a single five-minute period based on whether the asset's price moved up or down from the opening reference price. The specific price feed, oracle source, and settlement rules for Polymarket's implementation are not detailed in the supplied announcement.

Up/Down Markets vs. Owning the Underlying Asset

Participating in an up/down prediction market is distinct from buying or holding the underlying cryptocurrency. A position in an up/down market does not grant ownership of BTC, ETH, SOL, or XRP, and does not provide exposure to the asset's long-term price performance. The outcome is binary: a participant either receives a payout based on the correct directional call or loses the position.

Competitor platform Kalshi has pursued a similar short-duration strategy, having expanded its 15-minute markets beyond crypto to include gold and silver, indicating that sub-hourly prediction markets are an active area of product development across the regulated prediction market sector.

Why the US-App Expansion Matters

Polymarket's decision to route this launch specifically through its US app is a notable product signal. Polymarket holds a CFTC-registered designated contract market filing, and targeted US-app launches suggest the company is building out a distinct product layer for American users within that regulatory framework.

What the Announcement Does and Does Not Establish

The WatcherGuru alert confirms the launch and the four covered assets. It does not establish trading volumes, user adoption figures, or market liquidity for any of the four markets. It does not confirm whether the markets are available to all US users or whether eligibility restrictions apply.

The expansion to five-minute markets also fits within Polymarket's broader infrastructure trajectory. The platform's integration of Bitcoin Lightning deposits via Spark pointed toward a push for faster, lower-friction participation, which aligns operationally with short-duration market products.
