Grayscale has announced that eligible investors can now swap tokens directly for shares across 10 of its crypto ETFs and trusts, a structural change that bypasses the conventional open-market purchase route. The move introduces an in-kind exchange mechanism as an alternative to buying fund shares through secondary market trading.

Grayscale says the new mechanism allows qualifying investors to tender cryptocurrency tokens and receive corresponding fund shares in return, rather than purchasing those shares with cash on an exchange. The practical distinction matters: an investor delivering tokens directly to the fund gets exposure via a regulated product without executing a spot sale first. Access is restricted to eligible investors, a designation Grayscale has not fully defined in the headline announcement. Until the firm publishes formal eligibility criteria, transaction mechanics, and fee disclosures, the full scope of who qualifies and on what terms remains unconfirmed. It is also worth noting that holding a share in a Grayscale ETF or trust is a different form of exposure from holding the underlying token outright. Fund shares carry management fees, trade through brokerage accounts, and may carry a premium or discount to the net asset value of the underlying assets. Grayscale's recent ETF expansion has been broadening the range of assets available through its fund structures.
The 10 Crypto ETFs and Trusts: What Investors Should Confirm Before Acting

Grayscale says the in-kind swap feature applies across 10 crypto ETFs and trusts, but the announcement as reported does not name each product. Investors should confirm directly with Grayscale which 10 funds are included before assuming any specific product qualifies.
Key disclosures still needed from Grayscale include: which tokens are accepted for each product, the pricing methodology used to set the exchange ratio at time of swap, any fees or minimum transaction thresholds, and the settlement timeline. Grayscale recently assigned XRP a 26% weight in its advisor model portfolio, signaling the firm's broader multi-asset product push, though that portfolio is a separate offering from the ETFs and trusts named here.
The rollout also comes as regulatory clarity around in-kind redemption and creation mechanisms for crypto ETFs has been a subject of ongoing SEC discussion. Whether any of the 10 products involved are spot ETFs versus closed-end trust structures will affect the regulatory framework governing these swaps, and investors should review each product's prospectus for authoritative terms.
For active market participants tracking Grayscale's product expansion, the next disclosures to watch are the official fund-level announcements confirming token eligibility, the opening of swap windows, and any minimum investor qualification thresholds the firm sets for access.
