Qubic has pushed back against claims of a network hack, saying a security incident affecting users stemmed from weak wallet seeds rather than any compromise of the underlying protocol. The project's statement draws a direct line between credential security and fund exposure, rejecting the narrative that the Qubic network itself was breached.

According to reporting from CryptoPotato, Qubic stated that the security incident was caused by weak wallet seeds, not an exploit targeting the network. The project explicitly rejected hack claims, framing the event as a wallet-credential failure rather than a systemic vulnerability. For related coverage, see Monero Faces 51% Hashrate Attack by Qubic.

Wallet seeds are the private cryptographic strings that control access to funds. A weak seed, one that is short, predictable, or reused, can be guessed or brute-forced by an attacker without ever touching the underlying blockchain protocol. Qubic's position is that the protocol remained intact throughout the incident. For related coverage, see BitMine Adds 12,535 ETH as Tom Lee Flags Macro Headwinds.

The research brief does not supply details on the number of affected wallets, the total value at risk, or a specific timeline for the incident. Those figures remain unconfirmed at the time of writing. Qubic users should monitor official project channels for incident-specific disclosures on scope and remediation steps.
Qubic has attracted attention previously for its network's role in mining activity. The project's mining pool was linked to a 51% attack on Monero, and separately, Monero faced elevated hashrate pressure traced back to Qubic. Those incidents involved the network's computational layer; the current situation, by contrast, centers on individual wallet hygiene.

What Remains Unanswered

Qubic has not publicly detailed how the weak seeds were identified, whether the exposure was concentrated among a small group of wallets, or what recovery options exist for affected users. The distinction Qubic is drawing matters: a protocol hack implies a systemic flaw requiring a network-level response, while a credential-based incident places responsibility at the user level and limits the blast radius to wallets that used inadequate seeds.
Until Qubic publishes a full post-mortem, users should treat any unofficial loss estimates as unconfirmed. The safest immediate step is to verify that existing wallet seeds are long, randomly generated, and not reused across services.
