BAYC and MAYC holders can claim packs until January 19, 2027, using ERC-6551 Totems and Chainlink CCIP.

Collectors face separate costs for pack opening and trading, while physical-card conversion remains a planned feature.

Yuga Labs has opened claims for Mudwater, a physical and digital trading card collection that connects Ethereum-based Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs with collectibles issued on Solana.

Launched during ApeFest 2026 on October 17, Mudwater’s first release, Swamp Origins, features 120 artworks across standard, foil, numbered and rare editions. Its fixed supply consists of 10,000 boxes containing 240,000 packs and 2.4 million cards.

The Mudwater release documentation establishes a distribution model that prioritizes existing Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) holders while reserving part of the supply for commercial sales and new collectors.

The project also introduces two financial mechanisms beyond the initial NFT claim: paid pack opening and secondary-market fees that fund ApeCoin (APE) purchases and publisher royalties.

Unlike a conventional NFT airdrop, Mudwater uses Ethereum to establish ownership eligibility and Solana to distribute and trade the resulting assets. This separation affects how holders claim their allocations, manage wallets and eventually redeem physical cards.

Ethereum Totems Control Eligibility, Solana Receives the Cards

Yuga’s claiming architecture relies on ERC-6551 Token-Bound Accounts, represented by Totems associated with eligible Ape NFTs.

Under ERC-6551, an NFT can control a smart-contract account. Mudwater uses this structure to associate a claim entitlement with the underlying Ape rather than treating the connected wallet alone as the permanent beneficiary.

The distinction matters when an NFT changes ownership. An unclaimed entitlement follows the eligible Ape, while an already completed claim cannot simply be repeated by a subsequent owner.

Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) handles the cross-chain communication required to deliver the corresponding packs on Solana.

Yuga’s claim configuration also supports delegated wallets through the delegate.xyz registry. This allows eligible holders using cold storage to interact through an authorized wallet rather than necessarily connecting the vault wallet directly.

The original BAYC or MAYC NFT remains on Ethereum. Only the new Mudwater assets are delivered to the designated Solana wallet.

Claiming Mudwater: Wallet Setup, Fees and Deadline

The official claim interface is available at mudwater.bayc.com/claim.

Collectors begin by connecting their Ethereum wallet or an authorized delegated wallet. The interface checks the associated Totems and displays the eligible allocation.

They must then connect a Solana wallet to receive the packs. The destination should be checked carefully because the claim configuration fixes the recipient address after the first successful transaction for the associated Ethereum wallet.

The Claim All function submits an Ethereum transaction and initiates the CCIP delivery process. Ethereum gas and the quoted cross-chain fee are payable even though the packs themselves have no purchase price. Unused CCIP fees are refunded under the documented configuration.

The signed claim parameters allow up to 12 cross-chain messages containing six packs each, supporting delivery of as many as 72 packs through one claim transaction.

The claim deadline is January 19, 2027, at 00:00 UTC.

Collectors should access the claim through verified Yuga or BAYC channels and inspect wallet permissions before signing. A request to transfer the original Ape NFT or disclose a recovery phrase is not part of the described claim process.

Mudwater’s Costs Extend Beyond the Free Allocation

Yuga’s published release terms distinguish claiming packs from opening them, trading cards and converting digital collectibles into physical versions.

The opening fee makes sealed packs a distinct collectible product rather than merely a temporary container for individual cards.

Collectors can hold or trade unopened packs without paying to reveal their contents.

Opening them introduces a separate expense and exposes the owner to the rarity distribution of the cards inside.

Eight One-of-One Cards Do Not Establish Pack-Opening Odds

The Swamp Origins release includes eight serialized cracked-ice cards, each with a unique one-of-one designation.

Those eight cards represent approximately 0.000333% of the collection’s announced 2.4 million-card supply.

That calculation establishes the proportion of total cards represented by the rarest tier. It does not establish the probability of receiving one from an unopened pack, since the allocation and distribution rules may not be uniform.

Yuga’s release configuration also divides the 10,000 boxes among four distribution channels.

Distribution Boxes Share

Community airdrop: 7,134 boxes (71.34%)

Commercial reserve: 2,000 boxes (20.00%)

Community onboarding: 566 boxes (5.66%)

Partner communities: 300 boxes (3.00%)

The community allocation accounts for more than 70% of the initial supply. The remaining boxes allow Mudwater to reach buyers beyond existing BAYC and MAYC owners.

Yuga also plans a randomized distribution of serialized packs following the initial launch.

This makes the final rarity distribution more important than the headline supply figures alone.

Physical Cards Remain Vaulted Until Redemption Is Enabled

Mudwater combines Solana NFTs with corresponding printed cards produced by Orange Cap Games.

The physical cards are intended to remain in custody while their digital counterparts trade onchain. Yuga plans to introduce a conversion process allowing holders to obtain the printed versions or return physical cards for digital representation.

The service was not available at launch.

That distinction affects collectors buying Mudwater NFTs primarily to obtain physical cards.

Until redemption becomes operational, the digital asset cannot be treated as equivalent to immediate delivery of the corresponding printed collectible.

Mudwater also introduces a card game connected to Yuga’s Otherside environment. Its Ante mode involves players staking cards in competitive matches, although the initial implementation uses demonstration cards rather than the newly distributed NFTs.

APE Purchases Give Mudwater a Second Economic Function

Mudwater’s secondary-market fee structure connects card trading to ApeCoin.

The release terms allocate 2.5% of eligible trading value to purchasing APE for distribution among qualifying collectors. A separate 2.5% publisher royalty applies under the announced structure.

The two allocations serve different purposes. The first establishes a token-linked collector incentive, while the second generates revenue for the publisher.

However, trading volume is not equivalent to net APE demand. Purchases depend on eligible transactions and execution, while subsequent sales by reward recipients can offset buying pressure.

The structure also introduces transaction costs that collectors must consider when buying and reselling cards.

For Yuga, Mudwater represents a different approach to extending its intellectual property.

The company already supports ApeChain, an Ethereum layer-2 network focused on gaming and digital commerce, but has chosen Solana for this collectible release.

That arrangement separates Ethereum-based ownership verification, Solana trading and ApeCoin incentives across distinct networks.

The project’s longer-term economics will depend on whether the collection attracts active card collectors beyond its initial Ape-holder distribution, particularly once physical redemption and onchain gameplay become available.
