DogeOS recently launched a public test network aimed at enabling Ethereum-style trading, lending, and other decentralized applications for Dogecoin holders. The initiative seeks to broaden the use of Dogecoin beyond its well-known role in payments and speculative trading.

New developments on the Dogecoin network

The testnet launch allows Dogecoin users and developers to interact with new decentralized finance features that mimic those available on Ethereum. Applications can now be built on DogeOS using Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, which provides a familiar environment for developers accustomed to working with Ethereum’s development tools and standards.

Timothy Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation, described this as a major milestone. In a recent social media post, Stebbing mentioned that the Doge/EVM chain is experiencing an “absolute avalanche” of new projects, driven by increased developer interest in building on top of Dogecoin’s infrastructure.

DogeOS is positioned as a significant step in expanding Dogecoin’s capabilities, and Stebbing emphasized that new projects are fueling momentum for its ecosystem.

DogeOS was developed by the team behind MyDoge, a popular Dogecoin wallet. It brands itself as the application layer for Dogecoin, providing new tools for the Dogecoin community. By leveraging Ethereum compatibility, DogeOS invites developers to bring more sophisticated decentralized applications to Dogecoin holders.

EVM stands for Ethereum Virtual Machine, which allows blockchain systems to run smart contracts in a standardized environment, fostering compatibility across platforms. MyDoge is a wallet platform offering DOGE storage and transfers.

Other interoperability initiatives

In a parallel development, blockchain company Metallicus has introduced DogecoinVM, a solution bridging Dogecoin with the Metal Blockchain network. DogecoinVM functions as a DOGE-compatible ledger within Metal, significantly increasing transaction speed and interoperability.

According to announcements, Dogecoin transactions using DogecoinVM can now be settled up to 300 times faster, offering instant finality, though the core Dogecoin chain remains unchanged. This enables broader utility and potential adoption for DOGE in decentralized applications.

Dogecoin is also attracting attention for its upcoming technical indicator — a potential golden cross on its daily price chart, where its 50-day and 200-day moving averages are set to converge. This formation, if it takes place, would mark Dogecoin’s first golden cross of 2026.

Dogecoin last recorded a golden cross over a year ago, in August 2025. Following that signal, Dogecoin climbed to $0.30 by September 2025. Currently, however, Dogecoin is trading down to $0.093, mirroring the wider cryptocurrency market sentiment.

Broader markets reacted negatively to a weaker-than-expected US jobs report for September, prompting traders to reconsider the likelihood of an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve in October. At present, expectations for an October rate increase have faded significantly, but investors continue to monitor the possibility of a hike in December.

The next decision on US interest rates is due at the conclusion of the Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting on October 28.
