Surge

Zcash's privacy features are drawing renewed attention. The network recorded 62,379 shielded transactions last week, its highest weekly total since 2022, according to the Zcash Open Development Lab. The figure also ranks fourth across the network's full on-chain history.

Privacy Usage Accelerates

The spike in shielded activity comes after years of relatively muted usage and fits a broader trend of growing adoption of $ZEC's core privacy tools. Shielded transactions, fully private transfers enabled by zero-knowledge proof technology, are the key technical differentiator between Zcash and Bitcoin, and these transactions now account for approximately 59% of Zcash's total network volume, a significant increase from around 30% just a year and a half ago.Public transaction counts have remained roughly flat at about 8,500 per day throughout the broader rally, meaning nearly all activity growth has come from shielded transactions. Analysts view that pattern as a sign of genuine adoption rather than speculative noise, since exchange trading leaves no shielded footprint.

Regulatory uncertainty also eased in January 2026, when the SEC closed its multi-year investigation into the Zcash Foundation without enforcement action, removing a long-standing overhang that had weighed on institutional interest.A further catalyst arrived when Grayscale listed a spot Zcash ETF, ticker ZCSH, on August 25, 2026, giving brokerage investors regulated exposure to ZEC without self-custody. The product had already gathered approximately $362 million in assets under management by early September.

Price Surge Accompanies On-Chain Growth

The on-chain resurgence has coincided with sharp price gains. $ZEC is up 36% over the past seven days and 216% year to date, reaching $1,610 at the time of writing. Zcash reached an intraday high of $1,594.94 on September 19, 2026, according to TradingView market data.Privacy coins as a sector are up 213% since Bitcoin's October 2025 market top, and Zcash's surge has pushed the sector's combined market cap to $33.6 billion, making it the only crypto category trading above its level at that peak, according to Glassnode data.

The convergence of record shielded usage, institutional inflows via the new ETF, and easing regulatory pressure has placed Zcash at the center of what has become crypto's best-performing sector of the year. Whether the on-chain fundamentals can sustain the momentum will be the next test for the network.
