XRP Ledger, the distributed blockchain network that underpins $XRP, has rolled out a major software upgrade aimed at boosting efficiency, reliability, and security across its system.

Main features of version 3.4.0

Version 3.4.0, launched this week, introduces a broad range of improvements, protocol changes, and bug fixes. The update also brings two new amendments, including an enhanced version of the network’s lending functionality. These changes collectively aim to streamline network operations and offer a more robust foundation for future developments.

While most adjustments take place under the hood, they are critical for how XRP Ledger servers operate. These servers are responsible for validating transactions, maintaining ledger copies, and interacting with other infrastructure nodes. By implementing these changes, the network aims to ensure smoother and more reliable performance for all participants.

Performance enhancements and protocol safeguards

Among the notable updates, version 3.4.0 changes how servers handle the deletion of older ledger data. Previously, servers could continue removing outdated data even when recent transaction histories contained gaps. The new version alters this behavior by automatically pausing online deletion when such gaps are detected. This update is expected to help prevent servers from lagging behind in processing recent transactions during data cleanup.

Another technical enhancement focuses on Multi-Purpose Tokens, streamlining checks so that servers do not unnecessarily re-read the same data to determine if assets are frozen. These refinements are intended to increase the overall speed and efficiency of the network’s operation.

The latest release further addresses security by introducing protections against oversized transaction messages and refining server responses to unusual inputs or edge cases. These measures include stricter validation for certain transaction fields and safeguards limiting database operations that could overuse computing resources.

Software improvements and upgrade recommendations

In addition to security and performance updates, the upgrade features significant maintenance work within the codebase. Developers have modernized numerous components, replaced outdated software libraries, and enhanced the test infrastructure, aiming for long-term network stability.

XRP Ledger’s developer community urges all node operators and administrators to transition their servers to version 3.4.0 promptly. Adopting this release is necessary for continued access to new features and uninterrupted service as the network prepares to implement its latest protocol amendments.

Version 3.4.0 of the XRP Ledger introduces crucial performance gains, a series of bug fixes, and tighter security, with a particular focus on ensuring servers remain up to date and resistant to edge-case scenarios.

The update marks another step in the ongoing evolution of XRP Ledger, which seeks to balance innovation and reliability for both institutional users and everyday participants.
