The U.S. Department of Justice has initiated legal proceedings to confiscate approximately $61 million in digital currencies. These assets are allegedly connected to unauthorized transactions involving Iranian crude oil and petroleum products that violate international sanctions.

According to federal authorities, these proceeds were intended to bankroll Tehran’s government operations and military apparatus, specifically the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The United States formally classifies the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization.

The complaint identifies two Chinese-registered entities as central players in the alleged scheme. Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale purportedly utilized trading infrastructure on the Binance platform to process the illicit funds before transferring them to Iranian entities and affiliated networks.

Blessed Trust portrayed itself publicly as a provider of digital asset custody solutions. Meanwhile, Hexa Whale represented its business as a commodities trading intermediary. Court documents indicate both maintained commercial relationships with Chinese oil and petroleum sector clients.

Federal investigators emphasize that the $61 million represents merely a fraction of a significantly larger financial operation. Their investigation uncovered a cluster of cryptocurrency wallets, designated as “Entity A,” that processed transactions exceeding $1.5 billion in prohibited oil revenues.

These proceeds flowed to commercial enterprises with IRGC connections, various cryptocurrency addresses, and an Iranian-based digital currency exchange platform. The complaint alleges that Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale served as primary conduits for the majority of these transactions.

Deputy U.S. Attorney Sean Buckley emphasized that the enforcement action demonstrates Washington’s commitment to dismantling Tehran’s illegal revenue channels. He noted that such funds have historically financed terrorist activities and weapons development initiatives.

This legal action represents one component of an expanding U.S. strategy to constrict Iran’s economic resources. Last month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled plans for enhanced secondary sanctions aimed at Tehran’s revenue generation mechanisms.

The proposed sanctions framework encompasses digital currencies, technological infrastructure, civil aviation, precious metals trading, and maritime shipping operations. Government officials characterized the initiative as an “economic D-Day” against Iranian financial networks.

Earlier in June, Washington imposed sanctions on Nobitex, Iran’s most prominent cryptocurrency trading platform. Government agencies determined the exchange facilitated sanctions circumvention and provided financial support to IRGC-affiliated operations.

The Justice Department’s current filing follows shortly after the Treasury Department initiated “Operation Economic Outcast,” a comprehensive program designed to exclude Iran from international financial systems.

Binance has not issued an official statement addressing the recent allegations. The cryptocurrency exchange has previously contested similar accusations published by the Wall Street Journal and initiated defamation litigation against the newspaper’s corporate parent.

Binance Coin was valued at approximately $721 when the complaint was filed, reflecting a marginal increase of under 1% for the trading session. The digital asset experienced upward momentum following Bitcoin’s climb beyond the $78,000 threshold.

Brent crude oil futures were trading substantially above $100 per barrel as escalating U.S.-Iran geopolitical friction continued exerting upward pressure on global energy markets.
