Solana (SOL) has maintained its position above critical daily exponential moving averages (EMAs) following a notable climb in August. Despite this, recent declines in momentum indicators and a noticeable drop in open interest and trading volumes point to a potential consolidation phase in the market.

Technical Analysis: SOL Stays Above Major EMAs

As of the most recent data, Solana trades at $102.78, reflecting a decrease of 0.57% over the past 24 hours. TradingView data shows that SOL remains above its 20-day, 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day EMAs, signaling continued strength in the broader trend.

The current readings for Solana’s EMAs are: 20-day at $99.21, 50-day at $90.52, 100-day at $86.13, and 200-day at $91.37. Analysts consider the 20-day EMA at $99.21 a crucial support level. Should Solana experience a deeper retracement, traders are watching the $92.10 level, while broader support has been identified around $74.57—the region of a previous consolidation.

Solana’s relative strength index (RSI) is now at 60.74, down from its previous average of 67.73, indicating that some of the strong upward momentum from August has diminished. The RSI remains above levels that typically signal bearish conditions, suggesting ongoing optimism among market participants.

Recent open interest data from Coinglass shows a surge from $4.4–$4.5 billion at the start of August to as high as $7.5 billion before dropping to $6.6 billion, mirroring price action in late August and reflecting a reduction in leverage as Solana consolidated.

Open interest levels provide insight into trader activity in the derivatives market, though the available data does not clarify whether positioning is net long or short. As a result, analysts note the difficulty in establishing a clear bullish or bearish bias from these figures alone.

The August rally was also marked by significant liquidations, with a sharp spike occurring around August 20 as short positions worth approximately $100 million were closed. This event coincided with SOL’s surge out of the $70s range, suggesting that forced short liquidations contributed to the upward move. However, liquidations affected both long and short positions as volatility increased, indicating an active derivatives market during this period.

Trading Activity and Institutional Interest

Solana’s trading volume spiked during the August rally, with several days featuring volumes between $12 billion and $15 billion. The highest daily volume neared $17 billion, substantially higher than previous periods. Since then, trading volumes have dropped, with SOL stabilizing in the $100–$105 range. This drop in volume is closely watched as analysts assess whether new demand will emerge if SOL targets higher prices.

A rise in both price and trading volume would indicate robust new demand. Conversely, if price moves higher while volume remains weak, analysts may question the sustainability of the rally.

Beyond price action, the Solana Foundation announced a closed, invitation-only forum named “Solana & Suits,” which is scheduled for October 5 in London. The event will focus on the evolution of capital markets and will feature speakers from leading institutions, including Standard Chartered, State Street, Société Générale, Baillie Gifford, and Allfunds. The event aims to foster discussion among major financial services firms about building the future of onchain financial infrastructure.

By engaging major banks and asset managers, Solana aims to position itself at the center of the discussion around onchain financial systems, emphasizing how change will be implemented, rather than if it will occur, according to the Solana Foundation’s announcement.

Although the event is not directly linked to recent movements in Solana’s price, it highlights the project’s intention to attract institutional attention and deepen its connection to global finance.

Key Levels to Watch

Traders are monitoring several technical levels for Solana in the short term. The $105.20 intraday high is seen as the main resistance, with $110 marking another key area where recent rallies met selling pressure. A confirmed breakout above these levels, especially with increased volume, could signal renewed bullish momentum.

On the downside, the 20-day EMA at $99.21 is the immediate support to defend. A move below this level could undermine short-term momentum, while a fall past $92.10 would open the door for a deeper technical correction, with the broader $74.57 support area coming back into focus.
