Zcash (ZEC) is the standout trade of August 2026. The privacy coin surged to an eight-year high near $868 on Aug. 25, capping a 69% seven-day run that made it one of the week's top gainers, before falling back toward $785. It now trades around $800 at the time of writingWith a market cap near $13 billion, traders are pricing in more than one coin's breakout: they are<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/privacy-coins-rally-proves-market-wants-privacy" rel="noopener noreferrer"> buying financial privacy itself</a>.<h2 id="why-is-zcash-pumping">Why Is Zcash Pumping?</h2>Wall Street is the obvious immediate catalyst. The disclosure sent ZEC's price halving from around $602 to below $300 by June.But the developers’ response helped to fuel the recent bull case. They shipped an emergency fix within days, and the Ironwood upgrade activated on July 28.As part of the remediation, the legacy shielded pool, which held millions of ZEC, was sealed as it could no longer be fully trusted. ZEC sits about 10% off its recent 2026 peak, at prices last seen in 2018.<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dash (DASH)</a> is borrowing Zcash's Orchard technology for its own optional privacy layer and is up 29% in the last month, though still -12% year-to-date.Some purists rank Monero the stronger<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/what-are-privacy-coins" rel="noopener noreferrer"> privacy coin</a>, yet the market is paying for accessibility and narrative rather than privacy. XMR’s mandatory privacy has cost it most regulated exchange listings and left it without the viewing keys compliance teams want.Its tail emission also lacks the hard-cap story allocators love.
