South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, has announced a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals for Stacks (STX), a token built on the Bitcoin network. The halt is scheduled to begin at 12:00 a.m. UTC on July 29.

Timeline and Scope of the Suspension

According to an official notice from Upbit, the suspension will affect all STX deposit and withdrawal services. The exchange has not provided a specific end time for the pause, advising users to monitor further announcements for updates. The move appears to be a standard operational measure, often implemented during network upgrades, wallet maintenance, or security reviews.

Possible Reasons Behind the Halt

While Upbit has not disclosed the exact cause, such suspensions typically occur during planned network upgrades or protocol changes. Stacks, known for enabling smart contracts and decentralized applications on Bitcoin, recently underwent the Nakamoto upgrade, which introduced faster block times and improved security. It is possible that Upbit is aligning its systems with these updates or performing routine maintenance to ensure transaction integrity.

What This Means for STX Traders

Traders holding STX on Upbit should be aware that during the suspension period, they will not be able to deposit or withdraw the token. Trading pairs involving STX, however, may remain active unless otherwise specified. Users are advised to complete any pending transactions before the cutoff time to avoid delays. The suspension is expected to be temporary, but the duration remains unconfirmed.

Conclusion

Upbit’s temporary suspension of STX services is a routine but notable event for traders and holders of the token. While the exchange has not detailed the cause, such pauses are common in the crypto industry for technical maintenance or network upgrades. Users should stay updated via Upbit’s official channels for the resumption of services.
