A short statement from YoungHoon Kim, widely recognized as the world’s highest IQ holder, gained visibility after he categorized leading digital assets in a hierarchy that placed XRP at the top.
Kim’s post stated plainly, “Bitcoin is Digital Gold. Ethereum is Digital Oil. XRP is Digital God.” The wording immediately attracted attention due to Kim’s public reputation, prompting reactions from across the cryptocurrency community.
Among those responding was crypto enthusiast Mason Versluis, who addressed the comment directly while focusing less on the phrase itself and more on the assumptions that often follow such high-profile mentions of XRP.

Separating XRP From Corporate Structures

Versluis began by stressing a foundational point that he believes is frequently misunderstood. He stated that XRP is not a company, but a decentralized cryptocurrency. As such, it does not operate with a marketing department, budget, or internal team capable of paying individuals to promote it.
This clarification was central to his response. Speculation often arises that attention-grabbing commentary about XRP is driven by organized promotional efforts.
He contrasted this with Ripple, which he described as a company that maintains a marketing team and financial resources. Versluis was careful to distinguish between the digital asset and the company, emphasizing that the existence of Ripple as a corporate entity does not imply that XRP itself engages in marketing or pays commentators.

Addressing Claims of Paid Endorsements

Versluis went on to address allegations that influencers or public figures are compensated to speak positively about XRP. He stated unequivocally that he has never been paid by Ripple and added that he does not know anyone who has been paid specifically to talk about XRP. This assertion was presented as a direct rebuttal to claims that Kim’s post was the result of corporate sponsorship.

Rather than attributing Kim’s comment to financial incentives, Versluis offered an alternative explanation rooted in social media dynamics. He suggested that mentioning XRP, particularly strikingly or unconventionally, reliably generates views and followers. From this perspective, he argued, Kim’s decision to reference XRP could be explained by the visibility such commentary tends to attract, especially given Kim’s global profile.

Considering Other Possibilities

While dismissing corporate involvement, Versluis acknowledged that it remains theoretically possible that an independent market participant could have influenced the post. However, he was clear in stating that he does not believe Ripple played any role. His response ultimately framed Kim’s comment as more likely driven by attention economics than by coordinated promotion.
