The online payment giant Stripe is making a big comeback in the crypto world. After a six-year hiatus, the company announces support for stablecoin payments on the Solana network for U.S. merchants.

Stripe re-enters the crypto world with an innovative approach

Stripe is betting on stablecoins to overcome the challenges faced during its first foray into crypto back in 2014. The company had to end its support for Bitcoin in 2018 due to excessively long transaction times and high volatility.

Today, Stripe enables USDC payments on three networks: Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon. The choice of the USDC stablecoin, issued by Circle, offers crucial price stability for commercial transactions. Merchants receive US dollars directly, with Stripe handling the conversion.

This pragmatic approach demonstrates Stripe’s fine understanding of the crypto market challenges. By relying on stablecoins rather than volatile cryptos, the company meets the concrete needs of merchants while paving the way for massive adoption.

Solana establishes itself as the preferred payment network

While Stripe supports multiple blockchains, Solana clearly stands out for large-scale payments. Its advantages? An impressive transaction throughput and near-zero fees, far ahead of Ethereum or even Polygon.

These characteristics make Solana the ideal candidate to meet Stripe’s requirements for transaction speed and cost. The network thus seems tailor-made to avoid the pitfalls that led to the previous abandonment of Bitcoin support.

The integration of Solana by Stripe illustrates the growing maturity of this blockchain ecosystem. It also validates Solana’s potential as a next-generation payment infrastructure, capable of competing with traditional systems in terms of efficiency.

In summary, this announcement marks a decisive step towards the massive adoption of crypto in e-commerce. By combining Stripe’s expertise and Solana’s performance, the entire digital payment ecosystem takes a new leap forward.
