Exchange notices about stopped deposits and withdrawals tend to cause worry, mostly when the wording is vague. The network upgrade pause vs. token delisting question is worth settling early.
The two kinds of notice lead to very different results for the coins sitting in an account. One is a short tech break, and the other is the end of a token's time on the platform. Three Bybit cases below show how each one looks in practice and what traders can do.

How Does a Network Upgrade Pause Differ From a Token Delisting?

Both notices can freeze a coin for a while, which is why traders often mix them up. In a network upgrade pause vs token delisting comparison, the cause and the outcome set the two apart.

What Does a Network Upgrade Pause Mean for Traders?

Blockchains get new software from time to time, and some changes, such as a hard fork, alter the rules the network follows. According to Bybit's help center, stopping deposits and withdrawals gives an upgrade room to finish safely. It also helps a hard fork switch to new rules without errors.
The same page lists software or hardware upgrades, network congestion, and low hot wallet balances among the usual causes. The stop is short-term. Traders can use another network for the same coin or set an alert that tells them when the service returns.

What Does a Token Delisting Mean for Traders?

A delisting has a different cause. Bybit says it reviews the tokens it lists, and a token that fails its listing rules may be removed after a deep review. Trading pairs, deposits, and withdrawals tied to that token can then be stopped.
The help center adds that Bybit may change or cancel a delisting at any time without prior notice. In the network upgrade pause vs token delisting debate, that is the main gap, since a pause is meant to end and a delisting is not.

How Did Bybit Handle the Merlin MERL Network Upgrade Pause?

The first case is a clear pause. It happened in May 2024, when the Merlin network went through a planned upgrade.

When Did Deposits and Withdrawals Stop for MERL?

Bybit paused MERL deposits and withdrawals on the Merlin network. A report on the move said the pause covered both its spot platform and its Web3 wallets.
The window opened at 7:00 UTC on May 24, 2024, with the upgrade expected to last about 12 hours. Merlin Chain stopped making blocks during that time, and its official cross-chain bridge was down.
This is a good network upgrade pause vs. token delisting contrast. Nothing in the report touched the token's listing.

How Did Services Restart After the Upgrade?

Bybit said deposits and withdrawals would resume on their own once the upgrade ended and the network was confirmed stable. No extra post was planned for the reopening. Traders who wanted a signal could set an alert on the deposit or withdrawal page for the coin.

What Happened When Bybit Delisted CAMP and Five Other Spot Pairs?

The second case moves to the other side. A delisting comes with a firm date, and the notice leaves holders a short window to act.

Which Tokens and Pairs Were Affected?

The notice covered six spot trading pairs, set for removal on August 25 at 8:00 a.m. UTC. They were CAMP, WHITEWHALE, CUDIS, PIRATE, TAI, and SVL.
Coverage of the notice said only the spot pairs were affected. Deposits of these tokens would stop being supported after that. The case shows the other side of the network upgrade pause vs. token delisting split.

What Did the Notice Mean for Holders?

Withdrawals could stop after the cutoff. Coverage said Bybit often gives a grace period for them, without saying how long it lasts. Holders were urged to close open positions and move funds out before the deadline.
The delisting applied to Bybit only, so the tokens could still trade on other exchanges, each with its own risks. In any network upgrade pause vs. token delisting review, this example puts the calendar first.

What Did the IMU, PENGUIN, and SPELL Delisting Show?

The third case is one more delisting, and Bybit's published rules help explain what happens to funds once the date passes.

Which Spot Pairs Did Bybit Remove on June 30?

Bybit announced that the IMU, PENGUIN, and SPELL spot trading pairs would be delisted on June 30. The notice names three tokens and one date. Nothing in it points to a network change.
That places it on the delisting side of the network upgrade pause vs. token delisting line. Bybit's spot delisting rules cover what follows.

What Happens to Tokens Left in the Account?

After a delisting, deposits of the token stop, and holders get a buffer period to withdraw. Tokens still in the account once that period ends are exchanged for USDT at the market price, if the market allows.
The process is expected to take about six months. When over-the-counter liquidity is too thin, no exchange takes place, and the token's value becomes zero, so it no longer shows in the account. Amounts under 0.01 USDT after the swap are not released. Bybit advises users to withdraw early to avoid losses from price swings.

How Can Traders Tell Network Upgrade Pause vs. Token Delisting Apart?

With the three cases in view, a few habits make the two notices easier to sort. Most of the answer sits in the wording of the notice and in where it was found.

Which Wording Points to a Pause or a Delisting?

Titles give the first clue. Words like network upgrade or wallet maintenance point to a pause, while delist points to removal. Scope helps as well.
A pause usually covers deposits and withdrawals on one network, whereas a delisting names the token and its trading pairs.
A pause stops when the network is stable, and a delisting sets a date. For anyone sorting a network upgrade pause vs token delisting notice, the right move follows from those signs: wait or switch networks for a pause, and withdraw before the buffer ends for a delisting.

Where Should Traders Confirm a Notice?

Fake notices spread through messages and copied accounts. Any network upgrade pause vs. token delisting notice should be opened from Bybit's own announcements page, not from a forwarded link.
Bybit also runs a live deposit and withdrawal status page that shows the current state of each coin and network. Traders who want a wider routine for spotting fake notices can learn how to verify exchange listings before sending funds.

Conclusion

Both kinds of notice stop activity for a while, but only one ends in removal. The Merlin case showed a pause that finished once the upgrade did. The CAMP group and the IMU, PENGUIN, and SPELL group showed delistings with firm dates.
A trader who reads the wording, checks the date, and uses official pages can handle any network upgrade pause vs. token delisting notice with far less stress.
