Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, directly addressed a rumor circulating on social media, firmly denying ownership of a Shiba Inu dog and clarifying that he does not hold Shiba Inu tokens either. This direct response from Zhao, commonly known as CZ, aims to dispel misinformation that quickly gained traction within the crypto community.

Social Media Claims Stir Crypto Community

On October 29, a prominent crypto-focused social media account posted a claim directed at Zhao, requesting confirmation of a story involving an alleged Shiba Inu dog named Riki. This post quickly spread, sparking debates over its content and the accuracy of the claimed narrative. It humorously suggested that Zhao’s supposed dog adapted to life in Tokyo faster than CZ himself, without facing issues like rent.

CZ clarified these claims are false, stating, “I have never owned a Shiba Inu dog, nor do I know who or what Riki is.”

Challenge of Correcting Misinformation

Zhao typically refrains from responding to such claims, but he highlighted the growing challenge of misinformation. As the founder of one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, he alluded to the overwhelming amount of errors present in such stories, suggesting that correcting every inaccuracy would be an arduous task. Binance continues to lead the market by trading volume, underscoring the significance of accurate information in this sphere.

The community’s reaction was mixed following Zhao’s assertion. While some participants regarded the story as a light-hearted joke, others speculated it might have been orchestrated to falsely boost support for Shiba Inu, thereby manipulating perceptions around the token.

Origin of the False Claim Remains Unclear

Central to the controversy is the mystery of how such misinformation originated. No conclusive explanation regarding the genesis of the narrative has emerged, leaving questions about whether it was a deliberate misdirection or an unchecked rumor that gained unnecessary attention.

Shiba Inu, a meme coin developed on the Ethereum blockchain, remains in the spotlight not because of its market performance, but due to the rapid spread of an undocumented story, which was publicly refuted by one of the industry’s notable figures. This event highlights the delicate nature of narratives within the crypto space, particularly those lacking verifiable facts.

Some commentators have suggested that the story might have been an attempt to fabricate perceived backing for Shiba Inu. However, the intent behind the false claim has yet to be definitively established.
