Euronext, a leading pan-European stock exchange operator, has suspended the launch of CoinShares’ Zcash exchange-traded product (ETP) on Euronext Paris. The product, which had been scheduled to begin trading on Wednesday, remains halted until the exchange’s operational settlement processes are assured.

The exchange confirmed the suspension of CoinShares’ Zcash ETP, trading under the ticker ZCSH, through a notice published on Wednesday. No detailed explanation was offered in the initial announcement, leaving the market uncertain about the underlying reasons for the halt.

Flavio Bornancin-Tomasella, press and communications manager at Euronext, stated that the decision is related to ensuring full support for standard settlement operations by the Central Securities Depository (CSD). He emphasized that the suspension is strictly an “operational settlement requirement,” ruling out regulatory or listing-related concerns for the time being.

Bornancin-Tomasella explained that trading will resume once “standard settlement operations can be fully supported by the Central Securities Depository (CSD),” and characterized the measure as strictly limited to operational issues.

CoinShares, a digital asset investment firm based in Europe, had earlier announced its plans to launch the ZCASH ETP on Euronext Paris. However, trading will remain suspended until Euronext is confident that the necessary settlement infrastructure is fully operational.

Context in the European Market

If trading proceeds as anticipated in the future, CoinShares’ Zcash ETP would become the fourth such product tracking Zcash to launch in Europe. Other asset managers, including 21Shares, Virtune, and Valor, introduced their own Zcash ETPs earlier this year, aiming to provide greater exposure to privacy-focused cryptocurrencies on regulated exchanges.

CoinShares has not yet provided a public comment on the suspension. Market participants are awaiting further updates from both CoinShares and Euronext regarding the timeline for resolving the settlement issue and the revised launch date.

Euronext gave no timeline for resolving the operational issue but indicated that the suspension would remain until all standard settlement functionalities are confirmed operational by the CSD. Potential investors and CoinShares clients are monitoring further statements from both organizations.

The suspension comes at a time when issuers are actively expanding ETP offerings for privacy coins like Zcash in Europe, seeking to meet growing demand among institutional and retail investors for regulated exposure to digital assets.

The ZCSH product aims to streamline Zcash investment for investors seeking regulated alternatives to direct cryptocurrency purchases. However, those interested in accessing Zcash exposure through stock exchange products will need to await resolution of the current operational setback.

The CoinShares Zcash ETP will not begin trading on Euronext Paris until all operational standards required for settlement are confirmed in place by the Central Securities Depository.
