Bitcoin maintained a price level of $81,000 despite a broader selloff in equity markets, rising yields on the US 10-year Treasury, and ongoing geopolitical instability in Europe. Peter Bain, Chief Marketing Officer at Blockstream, described this resilience as “a really, really strong signal” for the cryptocurrency’s long-term outlook.

Institutional momentum and new ventures

Blockstream, a leading Bitcoin infrastructure provider founded in 2014, has been advancing its efforts to attract institutional clients. The company recently launched a new hub in Lugano, Switzerland, along with a dedicated consulting division aimed at expanding services for institutional investors.

Bain stated that building robust technology infrastructure is essential before significant price growth can occur. This approach, he explained, ensures that both stablecoins and tokenized equities can operate efficiently on the Bitcoin network, paving the way for greater adoption among larger organizations.

Institutional demand for Bitcoin is rising, with many clients believing that the asset is “poised for a big bull run” as market structures mature and additional entry points open for large-scale investors.

According to Bain, Switzerland’s well-defined regulatory environment and extensive banking sector provide an optimal location for launching new institutional-focused products.

He also contrasted the dominance of American treasury management companies with Switzerland’s regulatory clarity, which is attracting more international participation in the sector.

Security, quantum resistance, and technical developments

Bain addressed recent concerns over potential threats from emerging technologies, such as quantum computing, noting that these risks remain at least several decades away. Instead, he highlighted current weaknesses in software deployment processes, referencing a recent PHP exploit as an example of why cybersecurity practices must continually evolve.

Research teams at Blockstream are working on ways to enhance Bitcoin’s quantum resistance through improvements in cryptographic signature schemes and collaboration within the Bitcoin Security Consortium.

Modernizing Bitcoin’s signature algorithms and consensus mechanisms is necessary to maintain security in the face of future threats, with coordinated upgrades planned across the industry as new standards emerge.

Update on Liquid Network and operational recovery

Bain provided an update on the Liquid Network, Blockstream’s Bitcoin sidechain, following a recent technical incident that temporarily affected the network’s swap services. He reported that the swap function has been restored, enabling users once again to move Bitcoin from the sidechain to the main Bitcoin blockchain.

This recovery demonstrates the resilience of both Blockstream’s operational teams and the technical architecture supporting the growing ecosystem of institutional Bitcoin adoption.

Looking ahead through 2027, institutional sentiment gathered by Blockstream indicates optimism for considerable price appreciation, provided that regulatory frameworks and robust infrastructure continue to mature globally.
