The Pi Network desktop app picked up a notable update this year. On October 22, 2026, the project published version 0.6.4. It targets two pain points: remote access and app safety.
According to the Pi Desktop 0.6.4 announcement, Pioneers can now reach locally hosted apps from their phones without touching home router settings. The release also adds checks that limit what each app can reach on a computer.
The feature behind these apps is SoloHost. The Pi Network team introduced it in beta on June 28, 2026.

What Is Pi Network, and What Does Pi Desktop Do?

Pi Network is a crypto project built around a mobile app. Users, called Pioneers, take part daily and earn Pi. The whitepaper, published on Pi Day, March 14, 2019, states the mission plainly: a crypto and smart contracts platform run by everyday people.
Pi Desktop is the computer side of the Pi Network setup. It combines two things. One is the desktop version of the Pi app, where Pioneers can check balances, chat and watch media. The other is the node interface, which lets a computer run Pi Node software.
A node is a computer that helps validate blockchain transactions. Theofficial Pi Node page calls nodes the fourth role in the ecosystem. It lists three participation levels: Computer App, Node, and SuperNode.
Pi Network also uses a trust-based consensus method instead of proof of work. A regular laptop can take part without special mining hardware.
SoloHost builds directly on this node setup.

The desktop app has a longer history than one release suggests. The table collects key dates from official pages.

The October 2025 pilot deserves attention. According to the project's case study, workers acknowledged jobs within one second and returned results within four seconds. It showed that nodes can run outside tasks and send answers back. SoloHost turns that idea into a product.

What Is SoloHost, and How Does It Work?

SoloHost is an open framework inside Pi Desktop from Pi Network. Developers can build apps and list them. Users can find, install, and run those apps on their own computers.
The project says a Pioneer's computer then acts as a personal server. A phone can reach the apps through the SoloHost app in Pi Browser. Pi Network describes the goal as keeping data on the user's own device instead of sending it to remote servers.
One listed app is Hermes, an open-source local AI agent. The project says it runs and stores all its data on the user's computer.
The Pi2Day announcement also outlines a stated plan for distributed computing. An upcoming app would let roughly the top 100 node operators contribute computing power for AI tasks. Third-party clients could pay those operators in Pi. That remains a plan, not a confirmed result.
SoloHost is still in early beta, and Pi Network says availability is rolling out gradually.

What Does Pi Desktop 0.6.4 Change for Remote Access?

Before this update, remote access had a catch. Pi Network Pioneers had to change settings on their home routers. The project says that setup might not work on certain networks.
Version 0.6.4 removes that step. Pi Desktop now makes the connection without requiring users to open ports on their home networks. Remote access stays optional.
Pioneers who already set it up can switch over by selecting "Reconnect" in the remote access screen.
For non-technical users, that is likely a real gain. Router settings are where many home setups stall.
One caution applies. The release notes also mention updates to the Pi Node open-port interface. That is a separate matter from SoloHost remote access, and the post does not explain the details.

How Does 0.6.4 Protect Computers Running SoloHost Apps?

The security change is arguably the more important one. According to the Pi2Day announcement, SoloHost uses structural checks on packages but no traditional pre-publish review pipeline. The directory works closer to an open developer platform than a curated app store.
Open platforms invite more apps and more risk.
Version 0.6.4 adds a technical check that Pi Network says validates each app can only reach its own files and its own network. It says this reduces the chance of an app touching the rest of the computer, Pi Node, or another app's data.
The check runs at three points:

When an app is first published, to help keep failing apps out of the catalog

Before an app is installed

Each time the app starts

A check at publishing alone could miss later changes. Checking at every start narrows that gap.
Still, the wording is cautious. The project says the checks help identify and mitigate risks. It does not say they remove them. It also tells Pioneers to assess each app or package themselves and install it at their own risk. Technical details of how the checks work were not published in the sources reviewed.
For anyone running blockchain nodes explained at home, that distinction matters. A security check is not a guarantee of safety.

What Else Arrived Alongside the Desktop Update?

Pi Mainnet completed its upgrade to Protocol 28 on October 16, 2026. The project says the upgrade improves how the network handles delays in transaction data. It also makes smart contract maintenance easier, including upgrading groups of contracts at once.
The Pi Node page notes that every Pi Network Mainnet node must upgrade to version 28. It links to deadlines and instructions. Node operators should check that guidance directly.
Pi Network also reports minor interface improvements in 0.6. 4. The same page lists 0.6.4 as the latest version.
For wider context, the latest Pi Coin news updates from CoinGabbar track other developments around the project.

What Remains Uncertain About SoloHost?

Several points are still open:

Beta status:The project says SoloHost may change significantly.

Distributed computing timing:The Pi2Day post said the app would arrive soon after June 28. The 0.6.4 post does not give a release date.

Check details: No technical documentation for the isolation checks appeared in the reviewed pages.

Adoption: The 420,000-plus figure counts nodes, not SoloHost users.

Pi Network token price, listing, and return claims are not covered here, and none have been verified. ThePi Network whitepaper outlines the project's design, supply model, and mining mechanism.
General tokenomics explained covers token supply, distribution, utility, and reward structures across cryptocurrency projects.

What Should Readers Take From This Update?

For Pi Network, Pi Desktop 0.6.4 does two practical things. It removes the router step from SoloHost remote access, and it adds checks that limit what installed apps can touch.
What stands out is the focus. The update fixes friction and safety, not flashy features.
What remains uncertain for Pi Network is how well the checks hold up as more apps arrive and when the planned distributed computing app will appear.
