Initia's USDC bridge reserve fell to $63 at its lowest point during the October 23 hack, on-chain analytics firm Bitquery found, while 55 ordinary withdrawal attempts failed during the same incident.

What to Know

On October 23, Initia's network was subject to a security incident that resulted in a bridge exploit.

Bitquery's on-chain analysis found the USDC bridge reserve reached a low of $63 during the attack.

Bitquery also counted 55 failed ordinary withdrawals during the incident; the $63 reserve figure is a snapshot of reserve depth, not a measure of total losses.

Bitquery's On-Chain Observations: $63 Reserve, 55 Failed Withdrawals

Bitquery's analysis of the October 23 incident identified two distinct on-chain signals. First, the USDC bridge reserve was recorded at $63 at its floor, indicating the bridge's USDC liquidity pool was effectively drained during the attack window. Second, Bitquery counted 55 withdrawal transactions that failed during the same period, meaning users attempting standard exits from the bridge were unable to complete them. For related coverage, see Future Leaders Awards & Conference 2026 to Bring Global Business and Technology Leaders to Singapore on 2–3 November.
The two data points are distinct metrics. The $63 figure reflects the reserve balance at a moment in time; the 55 failed withdrawal count reflects user-initiated transactions that were rejected while the reserve was compromised. Neither figure has been presented by Bitquery as a total-loss estimate for the incident. For related coverage, see Bitcoin Tests $80K as $550M in Crypto Liquidations Hit.
The October 23 exploit extended beyond the bridge reserve alone. A hacker minted $2.7 million in crypto as Initia's blockchain halted, providing broader context for the scale of disruption tied to the same event. The reserve depletion and the mint activity represent separate on-chain observations from the same incident window.

Why Failed Withdrawals Are a Key Signal During a Bridge Incident

When a cross-chain bridge reserve is drained, the first measurable user-facing consequence is withdrawal failure. A bridge cannot honor outbound transfers if its reserve balance approaches zero; the 55 failed ordinary withdrawals Bitquery counted are the on-chain record of that constraint activating.
"Ordinary withdrawals" refers to standard, non-privileged exit transactions, distinct from any emergency or administrative functions. The failure of 55 such transactions during a single incident is a direct indicator of liquidity disruption, not a peripheral side effect.
Stablecoin bridge infrastructure carries inherent reserve-depth risk. Platforms processing USDC flows via bridge contracts face particular exposure because USDC's on-chain supply and distribution across chains, trackable via DeFiLlama's stablecoin dashboard, makes reserve anomalies visible in near real-time to on-chain analysts including Bitquery.
For bridge users, the practical risk indicated by both data points is the same: during an active exploit, withdrawal liquidity can be exhausted faster than users can respond, leaving pending exits to fail on-chain. A comparable dynamic emerged when Coinbase moved to halt GYEN transfers and convert balances to USDC, underscoring how stablecoin bridge and custody decisions carry direct user-impact consequences.
The ability to detect a $63 reserve floor and a count of 55 discrete failed transactions illustrates the forensic granularity now available through on-chain analytics. Bitquery's methodology treats each transaction as an independent data point, allowing it to separate reserve-level observations from individual user-impact counts rather than conflating the two into a single loss estimate. Bridge security vulnerabilities remain an active concern across the industry, as broader discussions about sophisticated attack vectors targeting crypto infrastructure continue to surface.
The confirmed details in this incident, as reported by Bitquery, are limited to two figures: a USDC bridge reserve of $63 at its lowest point and a count of 55 failed ordinary withdrawals during the October 23 event. Attribution of the exploit's mechanism, total losses, or attacker identity falls outside what the available on-chain evidence establishes. Further on-chain analysis or an official post-mortem from the Initia team would be required to close those gaps.
