Celestia

@celestia has switched on Fibre, a new data availability (DA) protocol that the project calls its biggest upgrade since launch. Fibre starts at about 150 megabytes per second, roughly 15 times the previous capacity, and every celestia:native validator is now expected to run a Fibre server. The upgrade is aimed at high-volume uses such as AI agents and round-the-clock markets.

How Fibre works

Fibre is a parallel route for publishing rollup data. Celestia has activated Fibre, a data-publishing protocol that lets rollups send data to validator-operated servers, according to TokenPost. Celestia's consensus layer records payment information and blob commitments, while the payload moves between clients and Fibre servers, keeping the data itself off the consensus layer.
The speedup comes from ZODA, a new data encoding method. The encoding protocol offers an alternative to KZG commitments used by existing DA protocols, and Celestia says Fibre processes data up to 881x faster than KZG-based protocols.Because data is erasure coded before broadcast and each peer only maintains a small share of the total, capacity grows linearly with the number of peers, the project said in a blog post.
The same validator set runs the system. Fibre is run by the validators that already secure Celestia, so no new operators are involved.Activation came on approximately October 20, 2026, after validator signaling crossed the required 83.33% voting power threshold, CryptoBriefing reported.

Benchmarks versus mainnet limits

The headline figure comes from testing, not live usage. In an Oct. 1 benchmark, Fibre averaged 3.07 terabits per second across 120 validators over 143 seconds, using 2-gigabyte blobs and one-second blocks on an experimental performance branch. Those settings are not yet on mainnet.
Launch limits are lower. A single Fibre blob can be up to 128 MiB, and each block can hold up to 200 Fibre submissions. The mainnet version runs with smaller uploads and a slower block cadence than the terabit benchmark setup. Celestia is targeting an increase to 2.2 gigabytes per second in November.
Celestia argues demand for blockspace will rise as AI agents pay on users' behalf and more finance moves onchain. At 3 Tb/s, it says Fibre could support an AI agent for every person on Earth, each sending a transaction every four seconds. That remains a theoretical benchmark claim rather than observed demand.
For the token, $TIA has several roles in the new system. TIA handles three jobs tied to Fibre: staking, escrow deposits and fee payments. Whether usage grows enough to matter for the token will depend on how quickly rollups adopt Fibre and how fast the limits are raised.
