Away from the big three, smaller tokens posted huge single-day jumps, as per CoinGecko:

IOST: $0.001419, up 80.4%, with $181,763,027 in trading volume.

These kinds of triple-digit swings show traders are chasing momentum across the board, not just parking cash in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin ETFs Pull In Fresh Money Again

Spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $23.16 million on October 20, as per SoSoValue data. That’s one of the smaller daily totals this month, but it’s still positive money coming in, not leaving. BlackRock brought in $29.86 million, Fidelity added $3.58 million, while Bitwise saw $10.29 million walk out the door.

Separately, Switzerland just cleared its first Bitcoin ETF. BIT Asset Management AG got approval for the Bitcoin Fund ETF under the ticker BBIT, as confirmed by BIT’s own announcement. That opens a new, regulated path for everyday investors in Switzerland to hold Bitcoin without touching a crypto exchange.

Ethereum Staking Just Hit A Record High

Bitwise’s Q4 2026 Staking Report shows Ethereum staking touched an all-time high of 43.8 million ETH, which is 35.9% of the total supply. This is the sixth straight quarter of growth, and it’s one more piece of the answer to why is crypto market up today. More ETH getting locked into staking means fewer coins sitting on exchanges ready to be sold, which tends to support price.
The yield for staking ETH did dip though, falling from 2.81% to 2.63%, a sign that as more people stake, the reward per coin naturally spreads thinner across a bigger pool of stakers.

Whales Keep Loading Up On Bitcoin And Ethereum

Big wallets aren’t sitting this one out, and their buying is a direct part of why crypto market up today trends keep showing green. Three newly created wallets picked up 1,090 BTC, worth $90.38 million, straight from Wintermute, according to Lookonchain data. Fresh wallets built just to hold this much Bitcoin usually signal serious, planned buying rather than casual trading, and moves like this tend to catch the attention of other large holders watching on-chain activity closely.
On the Ethereum side, Tom Lee’s Bitmine staked another 159,728 ETH, worth $390.6 million, adding to an already massive position. Bitmine has now staked 5.23 million ETH in total, worth $12.78 billion, which is 86.5% of everything it holds, leaving very little ETH unstaked and liquid. That kind of concentration shows real conviction in Ethereum’s long-term value.

Ripple Backs New Rules For Crypto Assets

Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty confirmed Ripple filed its comment letter on the SEC’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, adding a regulatory angle to why is crypto market up today. Alderoty said Ripple supports the plan and believes the SEC already has the authority to adopt it without needing new legislation from Congress, a stance that puts Ripple ahead of many peers in openly backing clearer federal rules.
He added that clear rules based on existing law will bring more capital, better investor protection, and real innovation to the US market, according to Ripple’s official statement. This kind of public support from a major industry player can ease investor worries about sudden regulatory crackdowns, which often weigh on sentiment across the whole market, not just XRP.

What Next For The Crypto Market?

All eyes now turn to the Fed meeting on October 28, the date that could decide whether today’s rally holds or fades. As per the CME FedWatch tool, there’s only a 14.9% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike, against an 85.1% chance of no change at all.

Lower rate hike odds generally work in crypto’s favor, since cheaper borrowing costs and steady policy tend to push investors toward riskier assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. That single decision could set the tone for where Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP head next, and it’s a big reason traders watching why is crypto market up today are also watching the Fed just as closely this week.
Expert Opinion: Analysts tracking on-chain and ETF flow data point out that today’s move looks broad rather than narrow. Spot ETF inflows, record Ethereum staking, and visible whale accumulation are happening at the same time, which analysts say usually reflects genuine demand rather than a single headline driving prices. Still, experts note that a 5.0% move in XRP and triple-digit gains in smaller tokens like Doodles and Orbio carry higher risk, and such sharp swings can reverse quickly once momentum fades.

Conclusion

Why is crypto market up today? Today’s rally isn’t one story, it’s five stories happening together. ETF money, a staking record, whale buying, and a Ripple regulatory push all point the same way, up. The Fed’s October 28 call will likely decide what happens from here.
