The contracts are funded in USDC and expire within one week, but a key restriction separates them from conventional exchange-traded options: buyers cannot sell or close their positions before expiry. The feature covers bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), avalanche (AVAX), XRP and TRON (TRX). Buyers pay a premium and an upfront fee rather than posting margin, capping trading losses at their total initial cost. Access is restricted to eligible users in supported jurisdictions.

How Do Blockchain.com's New Options Work?
Traders choose an underlying cryptocurrency, price direction, target price, expiration date and spending amount. Blockchain.com converts those selections into a call or put, displaying the contractual strike, premium, fees and potential payout before purchase. Quotes remain valid for 30 seconds. Calls generate a payout when the settlement price exceeds the strike; puts do so when it falls below. The amount received depends on the distance beyond the strike and the contract's notional exposure, rather than simply whether a target is reached. Purchases require USDC in an eligible Blockchain.com Trading Account. The $5 minimum excludes fees.

Why Does the No-Early-Exit Rule Matter?
Blockchain.com says positions must remain open until expiration and cannot be sold, transferred or voluntarily closed early. A trader whose call gains value after a price rally cannot crystallize that gain if the underlying asset subsequently reverses before settlement. Similarly, a trader cannot sell a losing position to recover remaining time value or release the committed premium. That removes an important risk-management tool available on options venues with active secondary markets. Outcomes depend on the final reference price, not interim price moves. The company can terminate contracts in exceptional situations, including pricing errors or regulatory restrictions, but customers cannot elect an early exit. Buyers therefore receive a defined maximum loss, not the flexibility to adjust a position once market conditions change.

Limited downside does not mean limited probability of loss. With no ability to close early, traders must be right about both direction and the final settlement price, while accepting that interim gains may disappear before expiry.

What Do Fees and Settlement Rules Mean for Returns?
Blockchain.com's documentation identifies an upfront premium fee and a settlement fee when a contract's gross payout exceeds its original premium. The quoted option premium also incorporates a spread or markup that is not separately itemized. As a result, simply finishing in the money is insufficient to guarantee profitability: any payout must cover the initial premium, upfront charge and any settlement fee. A position can generate a positive payout yet still leave the buyer with a net loss. Options expire at 08:00 UTC on the selected date, according to the support center. Settlement relies on a designated reference venue's price, which may differ from quotations displayed on other exchanges. Payouts are credited in USDC, subject to possible settlement delays.

The $5 entry threshold says little about the economics of an individual trade. The effective breakeven price depends on the quoted premium, embedded markup and fees, making contract-level pricing more informative than the headline minimum.

How Does the Launch Fit Blockchain.com's U.S. Derivatives Plans?
The launch adds another derivatives product to a platform that already gives selected international users access to prediction markets through Polymarket and perpetual futures through Hyperliquid. FinanceFeeds previously covered Blockchain.com's April integration of Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures into its self-custodial wallet. On October 13, Blockchain.com announced applications to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission for designated contract market status and registration as a futures commission merchant. Those applications seek a regulated route to serving U.S. retail and institutional derivatives customers; they do not constitute approval or establish that the newly launched options are available to U.S. traders. FinanceFeeds has also reported on the company's CFTC applications. Separately, its planned tokenized-securities collaboration with NYSE illustrates a push to broaden the trading products accessible through its platform, subject to approvals. The commercial test is whether a simplified interface attracts options users despite limited flexibility, while U.S. expansion remains contingent on regulatory approval.

The options launch expands product choice but provides no evidence yet of trading volume or revenue contribution. U.S. licensing outcomes, eligible-market coverage and user activity remain the clearest indicators of whether the initiative can scale.
