Diana’s latest post connects Visa’s stablecoin payment launch with Ripple’s participation in the Open USD consortium. She notes that Ripple joined in June, alongside Visa, Mastercard, BlackRock, and more than 140 companies. Visa launched a platform supporting Open USD in July before moving stablecoin-funded international payments into commercial use.

The timeline links Ripple’s consortium membership with Visa’s expanding work on digital payments. However, the sequence does not establish how closely the companies’ payment operations are integrated. Confirmed details about their respective services would clarify the relationship.

Ripple's blockchain and XRP are reportedly part of the Visa-Ripple deal as the basis for cross-border payments. These deals relate to the flow of money from financial institutions and markets. The precise settlement process depends on the services and assets used for each transaction.

Visa’s latest move brings stablecoin-funded transfers into commercial payment operations. In addition to the traditional settlement methods, there are stablecoins as well. Their practical value depends on how the systems handle liquidity, conversion, and delivery.

Ripple’s Role in the Open USD Consortium

Open USD brings together companies interested in stablecoin infrastructure and its financial applications. The supplied information names Visa, Mastercard, BlackRock, and more than 140 other companies. Ripple’s membership places the company among participants exploring this area of financial technology.

The aim of stablecoins is to maintain a fixed value against another asset, most often the U.S. dollar. This distinguishes them from any currency that trades for different values on different exchanges. Stablecoins also provide payment providers a means to move dollar-denominated value.

Ripple's RLUSD is a stable dollar coin, while XRP is priced based on the market. The two assets therefore serve different purposes within Ripple’s wider digital-asset business. Their roles in payment arrangements depend on the network and settlement method selected.

Visa has reportedly explored RLUSD alongside XRP within the broader payment ecosystem. That connection brings Ripple’s products into the discussion surrounding stablecoin adoption. However, exploration does not confirm that Visa currently uses either asset for specific commercial transactions.

What Visa’s Expansion Means for XRP

Visa’s stablecoin activity does not automatically create demand for XRP. A payment can use a dollar-backed stablecoin without requiring XRP as an intermediary asset. Any direct effect on XRP depends on how individual payment routes operate.

RLUSD could support dollar-denominated transfers where the relevant systems accept it. XRP may serve a different purpose in payment arrangements that use the token. Available information does not create a determination of an asset involved for each transaction.

These include the practical factors that impact commercial adoption: liquidity, settlement fees and regulatory compliance. Payment providers also have to take into account the systems that get and convert transferred funds. The information will aid in deciding if stablecoins are a viable alternative to current deals.

Membership in the Consortium should also be differentiated from use of the network. Joining Open USD does not mean every participant uses the XRP Ledger. Visa’s support for the initiative likewise does not prove that all its stablecoin payments involve Ripple technology.

Mention of more integrations and numbers of transactions would make the relationship clearer. Payment information may determine if XRP powers any aspects of Visa-related payments. So far, the developments are linked to the rest of the stablecoin market and don't necessarily lead to more demand for XRP.
