According to CoinGecko, Bitcoin <a href="https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">traded</a> near $82,795 at press time, gaining 1.13% over the previous 24 hours while remaining 1.37% lower over seven days. The cryptocurrency recorded approximately $25.4 billion in daily trading volume, with its market capitalization standing near $1.66 trillion.
The recovery followed a difficult week for financial markets, during which Bitcoin briefly fell below $80,000. Technology stocks faced selling pressure, oil prices remained elevated, and investors continued assessing the possibility of tighter monetary policy.
However, Bitcoin finished October 18 near $82,000 despite predictions that October 19 could bring another major market decline. The warnings coincided with the 39th anniversary of the October 19, 1987, stock market crash.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-bitcoin-s-black-monday-fears-push-social-activity-higher-strong">Bitcoin’s Black Monday fears push social activity higher</h2>
Blockchain analytics firm Santiment <a href="https://x.com/SantimentData/status/2112110054333714608" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported</a> a substantial rise in discussions about a potential Black Monday across cryptocurrency social media.
Mentions of the phrase reached 176 on October 18, compared with fewer than two mentions per day on average during the preceding 60 days. The figures showed how quickly expectations of a major sell-off had spread among market participants ahead of Monday’s trading session.
The busiest six-hour period occurred between 18:00 and 24:00 UTC, when Santiment counted 82 mentions. That period coincided with the reopening of US stock index futures, when traders began reacting to developments from the weekend.

General references to a market crash reached 105 mentions, which Santiment described as unusually high for a Sunday. However, the figure remained within the range recorded over the preceding 90 days, suggesting that broader crash discussions had not reached an unprecedented level.
Santiment compared the latest readings with a smaller rise in negative sentiment on September 14. Bitcoin declined approximately 3% the following day, although the firm cautioned that similar sentiment signals had previously preceded different market outcomes.
The data measures discussions about a possible crash, not the probability that one will occur. Social media activity can rise in response to warnings, bearish forecasts and traders debating potential market movements.
The current price recovery provides one example of that distinction, with Bitcoin trading higher on Monday despite the unusually large number of negative predictions.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-bitcoin-etfs-lose-229-million-as-institutional-demand-weakens-strong">Bitcoin ETFs lose $229 million as institutional demand weakens</h2>
Institutional investment activity presented a different picture during the week ending October 16, when US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $228.6 million in net withdrawals.
According to the October 12–16 fund-flow figures, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, IBIT, experienced approximately $165 million in outflows. Fidelity’s FBTC recorded around $60 million in withdrawals during the same period.
The selling was concentrated in several trading sessions, including Wednesday, October 14, when Bitcoin ETFs lost approximately $261 million. Tuesday’s $176 million inflow was insufficient to offset withdrawals recorded during the remaining sessions.
As crypto.news <a href="https://crypto.news/crypto-etfs-weekly-outflows-ethereum-bitcoin/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported in its weekly review</a>, Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately $320.1 million in withdrawals, exceeding Bitcoin fund outflows by nearly $92 million. Across five tracked cryptocurrency ETF categories, the combined withdrawals reached $610.7 million.
The figures describe net changes in investor subscriptions and redemptions, not the trading losses experienced by all investors holding ETF shares. Fund assets can fall because market prices decline even when investors do not withdraw their holdings.
The latest Bitcoin ETF losses followed approximately $679 million in withdrawals during the preceding week. Although the October 12–16 figure was smaller, the two consecutive negative weeks indicated that institutional demand remained uneven.
Market conditions improved somewhat on Monday, supported by stronger-than-expected Chinese economic growth and lower oil prices. China’s economy expanded 4.5% year over year in the third quarter, while oil prices declined after developments involving US restrictions on Russian energy.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-analysts-watch-81-000-as-bitcoin-attempts-to-recover-strong">Analysts watch $81,000 as Bitcoin attempts to recover</h2>
Despite the daily recovery, several analysts continued watching technical levels that could determine whether Bitcoin can sustain its move higher.
Crypto analyst Ted <a href="https://x.com/TedPillows/status/2112084828828963020" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">noted</a> that Bitcoin had managed another weekly close above $82,000 despite weakness in technology shares, oil trading above $100 and elevated market volatility.
He identified $84,500 as a level Bitcoin would need to reclaim to demonstrate stronger upward momentum. Without that recovery, he warned that another move below $80,000 remained possible.

Analyst Ali Martinez <a href="https://x.com/alicharts/status/2111898506285748735" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">identified</a> $81,000 as the lower boundary of a rising price channel on Bitcoin’s daily chart. He suggested that continued buying around that area could support a recovery toward $84,000, followed by $86,500.
A sustained decline below $81,000 would weaken that chart pattern, according to Martinez, who identified $76,000 as a lower level to watch. His analysis describes conditional scenarios based on technical indicators, not confirmed future price movements.
A separate assessment from Crypto Patel outlined a longer-term bullish chart structure, identifying $89,000 as resistance and $75,600 as support. The analyst placed another possible retest level near $66,700, with the bullish pattern considered invalid below approximately $59,800.
Patel’s upside projections included 90,000–100,000, with $125,000 as an extended target if the bullish structure continues developing. Those forecasts depend on future price movements and do not establish that Bitcoin has completed its correction.

CoinGecko’s reported seven-day range of 79,806–84,074 shows that Bitcoin has recently traded within the levels highlighted by several analysts. The token remained approximately 34.4% below its $126,080 all-time high at the reporting snapshot.

While short-term traders monitored the $80,000 region, analyst Michaël van de Poppe discussed a much larger potential move during the current market cycle.
In an October 17 post, van de Poppe <a href="https://x.com/CryptoMichNL/status/2111560380417790287" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">shared</a> a long-term Bitcoin chart drawing comparisons with previous market cycles and the technology boom of the late 1990s.

His analysis suggested that Bitcoin could experience a powerful speculative rally before eventually undergoing another major correction. The discussion included a possible $1 million price during the cycle, although no timetable or guaranteed outcome was established.
The chart referenced by van de Poppe placed a conservative long-term projection near $197,000 by 2030, using a trendline connecting five earlier Bitcoin cycle lows. Historical trendlines provide one method of examining price behavior, but previous cycles do not reliably determine future valuations.
Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan has separately <a href="https://x.com/Matt_Hougan/status/1856053707072516507" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">argued</a> that Bitcoin could eventually reach $1 million by capturing more demand from investors seeking stores of value. His framework compares Bitcoin with established assets used for long-term wealth preservation.
A rise from the reported $82,795 price to $1 million would require Bitcoin to appreciate approximately 1,108%. At its maximum supply of 21 million coins, a $1 million Bitcoin price would imply a fully diluted value of $21 trillion.
The calculation illustrates the scale of the forecast without establishing whether such demand will develop. Bitcoin’s current market value remains substantially below that theoretical figure.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-dormant-bitcoin-whale-moves-34-million-after-13-years-strong">Dormant Bitcoin whale moves $34 million after 13 years</h2>
Blockchain activity provided another development over the weekend as a long-inactive Bitcoin wallet transferred approximately 411.45 BTC to a new address.
According to Arkham Intelligence wallet records, the original address had held most of the coins since September 2013. Bitcoin traded near $131 when the wallet received approximately 411 BTC, placing the historical value of that balance near $54,000.
The transfer occurred on October 18 at approximately 18:23 UTC, moving the coins to a newer SegWit address. At a Bitcoin price near $82,795, the 411.45 BTC balance would be worth approximately $34.1 million.
The original address can be examined through Arkham’s <a href="https://arkm.com/explorer/address/13Coop8xFbYj9JR9WyF5EqzGa9GiZmxs7C" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">wallet records</a>, while the receiving address is listed on the <a href="https://mempool.space/address/bc1q2e68j927wctfryva578hjnjejvgdvru646rvq0" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin explorer</a>.
The destination was not identified as an exchange in the supplied blockchain analysis, and no subsequent outgoing transaction was reported at that checkpoint. A transfer between wallets does not establish that the owner has sold the Bitcoin.
The movement follows other large transfers involving long-dormant holders. Earlier in October, <a href="https://crypto.news/bitcoin-whale-moves-378m-after-6-years/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">another Bitcoin whale transferred</a> 4,582 BTC worth approximately $377.6 million after remaining inactive for more than six years.
A separate <a href="https://crypto.news/bitcoin-whale-moves-86m-after-11-years-of-dormancy/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">August dormant-wallet movement</a> involved more than 1,300 BTC transferred from older addresses, with blockchain analysis finding no confirmed exchange destination for the main group of transactions.
The October 18 receiving wallet uses a newer SegWit address format, which can provide lower transaction fees than older transaction formats. The original wallet’s history included small unsolicited deposits, some associated with address-poisoning attempts, according to the supplied blockchain analysis.
