Bitcoin price stayed above $85,000, while $87,000 capped further gains.

Analysts saw liquidation liquidity building around the $87,000 resistance zone.

Long-term holder activity remained moderate despite renewed whale movements.

Bitcoin traded near $85,100 on Oct. 4 after repeatedly failing to hold above $87,000. Bitcoin’s price remained positive in October, but sellers continued to defend the upper range.

BTC price was trading near $85,100 at press time. Analyst Niels warned repeated $87,000 rejections could precede an 8% to 10% correction.

The setup mattered because $87,000 sat near a visible liquidity concentration. A break above that zone could force short liquidations before sellers regained control. A failure to break through would keep Bitcoin’s price within the broader October trading range.

CoinMarketCap data showed Bitcoin trading around $85,100 on Oct. 4. The asset had gained roughly 0.6% over the past 24 hours. Coinbase also placed BTC in the mid-$84,000 range earlier Sunday. Its 24-hour trading volume stood near $12.8 billion.

Coinbase showed Bitcoin market capitalization near $1.71 trillion and dominance around 61%. Its data also showed weekend trading volume had fallen sharply from the prior session.

The Bitcoin price had recovered from its Sept. 30 close near $83,554. It also remained above the Oct. 3 close near $84,764. That resilience followed a stronger September, although BTC had not sustained a breakout above $87,000.

Analyst Andrew Kamsky said the Bitcoin price entered October stronger than its historical early-month pattern. He calculated a 1.40% gain from September’s close through Oct. 3. Kamsky said the first three October days historically averaged a 0.66% decline.

He calculated September’s gain at 6.39%, against a historical average decline of 4.02%. That left Bitcoin price entering October with stronger recent momentum than seasonal averages implied.

Bitcoin Price Faces $87,000 Liquidity Test

Niels said Bitcoin had repeatedly failed to reclaim $87,000 after several pushes above that area. He described those moves as possible upside liquidity sweeps.

He said the structure could support an 8% to 10% correction. He rejected expectations for a deeper 15% to 20% drop. Ted also identified large liquidation clusters around $87,000. He said Bitcoin could first sweep those positions before a correction developed.

CoinGlass maintains a real-time Bitcoin liquidation map tracking estimated liquidation levels across major derivatives venues. Its methodology calculates those levels using market data and leverage assumptions.

The BTC crypto market, therefore, faced a two-step test. Buyers first had to absorb the supply of around $87,000. They then had to hold the breakout rather than repeat the recent rejection pattern.

CoinGlass describes its liquidation map as an estimate based on market data and leverage levels. The tool does not represent guaranteed liquidation orders at each displayed price.

On-Chain Data Keeps Bitcoin Price Selling Risk Contained

CryptoQuant data offered a less bearish signal from long-term holders. Analyst Darkfost said monthly Coin Days Destroyed averaged 457, down from 688 in late August.

He interpreted that decline as moderate long-term-holder activity rather than aggressive profit-taking. CryptoQuant defines Coin Days Destroyed as spent Bitcoin multiplied by its holding period. Higher readings give greater weight to older coins moving on-chain.

That makes the metric useful for tracking activity from long-term holders and older wallets. The Bitcoin price, therefore, faced technical resistance without clear evidence of broad long-term-holder distribution.

That distinction mattered because older-holder selling can raise available supply near local market peaks.

Lookonchain separately reported that a wallet that had been inactive for over 13 years reactivated with 801 BTC. The account said the holder accumulated coins when Bitcoin traded between $124.86 and $411.75.

A wallet movement alone does not confirm selling. Funds can move between addresses without reaching exchanges.

BTC Price Outlook Centers on $87,000 Break

The next verifiable market level remained $87,000. A sustained move above it would weaken the immediate rejection thesis. It could also trigger leveraged short liquidations. Another failure would leave sellers controlling the range ceiling.

Niels’ 8% to 10% correction scenario implied a retracement toward roughly $78,000 to $80,000 from $87,000. That remained a conditional analyst projection, not a confirmed target.

The price of Bitcoin would first have to lose nearby support after another rejection.

For now, the Bitcoin price has remained above $85,000, while long-term holder spending has stayed moderate. Traders will watch whether BTC clears $87,000 or retreats from that liquidity zone again.
