The Crypto Fear and Greed Index stood at 72, indicating Greed, on October 2.
That was down from 74 on October 1, but above the 71 level recorded a week earlier. The current reading is also well above last month's level of 63, which also indicated Greed.
The one-day decline suggests that market optimism has cooled slightly, although sentiment remains firmly in the greed zone and has strengthened steadily over the past month.

Comparative Insight: What Changed Today?

The market gained momentum on October 2, with global market cap rising 1.1% to $2.99 trillion, up from just 0.2% on October 1 crypto update.
Trading volume fell from $108.3 billion to $97.1 billion. Bitcoin climbed from $83,777 to $84,522, while Ethereum moved from $2,688 to $2,699. Stablecoins reversed from a 0.2% dip to a 0.4% gain, whereas DeFi slipped 0.9% after rising 0.6%.
Bitcoin dominance edged up from 56.8% to 56.9%, and Ethereum's share eased from 11.1% to 11%. Sentiment stayed in Greed but rose from 71 to 72, despite the 74 reading on October 1.

What Does This Crypto Market Move Mean Today?

The crypto news today shows a market with mild upward momentum rather than a decisive breakout. Global market cap rose 1.1% to $2.99 trillion, Bitcoin and Ethereum edged higher, and stablecoin capitalization grew 0.4%, while DeFi slipped 0.9%.
The Fear and Greed Index fell two points to 72, so optimism remains strong but has cooled. The key distinction is between large-cap coins and small altcoins. BTC and ETH moved by 1.2% and 0.6%, whereas Super Cat, Revenue Family and HoodPork posted gains above 450%. For readers, liquidity, trading volume and sentiment are more useful signals than percentage changes alone.

CoinGabbar's Market View

The October 2 crypto market update points to a cautiously positive market. Bitcoin, Ethereum and stablecoins rose, while sentiment stayed in Greed at 72. However, greed readings can precede sharp pullbacks, and tokens jumping over 1,000% carry extreme risk because liquidity and market size are often limited.
Large-cap assets look comparatively steadier, but crypto remains highly volatile and no move is guaranteed to continue. Investors should avoid chasing sudden spikes, check volume and liquidity, and invest only what they can afford to lose. Key areas to watch are Bitcoin's trend, volume, and sentiment.
