The crypto market today is under pressure. Total value fell 2.07% to $2.85 trillion in 24 hours, and Bitcoin slid to $83,029, based on CoinMarketCap September 28 data.
A sharp Bitcoin drop wiped out crowded long bets, while war news and higher yields kept traders cautious. Here is what moved, what led, and what could come next.

CoinMarketCap's market summary names two causes. First, long liquidations piled up after Bitcoin broke below $82,700. Second, the token failed to hold resistance near $87K, which set off profit-taking in large altcoins. The same summary shows a 95% link with gold, a sign of a shared macro move tied to geopolitical stress.

The slide came in two steps. Bitcoin lost $84,000 early Monday, then $83,000 a few hours later, after a weekend test of $85,100. Reports link the drop to higher US Treasury yields and Iran tension, but that is a market explanation, not a proven single cause.
Fund demand stayed firm. US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $2.386B last week, the most since October 2025, per SoSoValue. CoinMarketCap also shows a fresh $296.15M inflow.

Bitget hack: About $380M to $387.5M was stolen on September 24. Attackers used a flaw in a third-party security product and stolen internal credentials. Macro pressure remains the main driver. Markets price a 65% chance of a Fed hike in October. These dates matter most:
Sept 30: August PCE inflation report
Oct 1-2: ISM manufacturing PMI, then the US jobs report at 8:30 a.m. ET
Oct 14: Consumer Price Index release
Oct 27-28: Federal Reserve rate meeting
Nov 3: US midterm elections, which could decide the fate of the CLARITY Act
The full calendar is in this weekly events guide. Bitcoin needs to hold near $83,000 to keep the September rebound intact. Inflation data, more than headlines, will likely decide where the crypto market today goes next.
