Charles Hoskinson is the founder of the&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/cardano-ada-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Cardano</a> blockchain and a co-founder of Ethereum. He is known for building Cardano on peer-reviewed research and for speaking bluntly.&nbsp;
<h2 id="span-span-strong-who-is-charles-hoskinson-strong-span-span">Who Is Charles Hoskinson?</h2>
His career has three stages:
<ul>
 <li>Born November 5, 1987, in Maui, Hawaii, he attended Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Boulder for mathematics.</li>
 <li>In late 2013, he became one of five original Ethereum founders and its chief executive. He left in 2014 after a dispute over whether the project should be commercial or nonprofit.</li>
 <li>In late 2014, he and Jeremy Wood formed IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong), the engineering and research firm behind Cardano.</li>
</ul>
<h2 id="span-span-strong-why-is-he-called-academic-minded-strong-span-span">Why Is He Called Academic-Minded?</h2>
Two choices explain it.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-peer-reviewed-protocol-design-strong-span-span">Peer-Reviewed Protocol Design</h3>
Cardano runs on Ouroboros, a proof-of-stake protocol where block producers are chosen by the ADA delegated to them. Cardano calls it the first provably secure proof-of-stake protocol based on peer-reviewed research. It stays secure while honest participants hold 51% of the stake.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-university-research-funding-strong-span-span">University Research Funding</h3>
IOHK has sponsored blockchain research at the University of Edinburgh, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and the University of Wyoming. In September 2021, Hoskinson gave $20 million to Carnegie Mellon University for a center studying formal logical systems.
<h2 id="span-span-strong-how-does-cardano-s-governance-work-strong-span-span">How Does Cardano's Governance Work?</h2>
Cardano moved to on-chain voting with the Chang hard fork in 2024. Three groups now vote:
<ul>
 <li>Delegated representatives (DReps), who vote with power assigned by ADA holders</li>
 <li>Stake pool operators (SPOs), who run the servers</li>
 <li>A seven-member Constitutional Committee, which checks that actions follow Cardano's constitution</li>
</ul>
A recent test: the "Update Constitutional Committee 2026" action needed 67% DRep and 51% SPO approval. It got 69.36% and 51.18% around September 1, and four new members took seats on September 6.
<h2 id="span-span-strong-why-is-he-so-outspoken-strong-span-span">Why Is He So Outspoken?</h2>
Hoskinson comments publicly and quickly, often on X, on votes, critics, politics, and attacks on his own channels. Four recent cases show the pattern.
<ul>
 <li>Treasury vote: Input Output, the firm Hoskinson co-founded, asked Cardano's treasury for 12.29 million ADA for Pogun, a Bitcoin DeFi product. It offered 20% of earnings until repayment, then a permanent 5%. The Constitutional Committee voted 7 to 0 in favor, but DReps voted 35.67% for and 64.33% against, so the request expired. On September 18, Hoskinson responded that Input Output will pick the best network for each product instead of defaulting to Cardano. He said RealFi launches on Cardano in October and Pogun by mid-December, both targets.&nbsp;</li>
 <li>Critics: After criticism sparked by a post from DexHunter, Hoskinson challenged people calling for his removal on September 9. He asked them to explain how ADA's price would rise without him. A week earlier, he said Cardano must "finish what it started," pointing to RealFi and Bitcoin DeFi. For context, OKX data shows ADA down 71.63% over one year and 92.49% below its 2021 high.</li>
 <li>Politics: In early September, users mocked him for missing a White House crypto meeting on digital asset policy, after CFTC Chairman Mike Selig posted photos of it. Hoskinson replied that he preferred to stay away and would return only after Republicans were "destroyed" in the midterms. He predicted that half of the executives pictured could face investigations if Democrats gain power. Reports call this a forecast, not evidence of any probe. Politics is not new for him: in February 2025 he announced a Wyoming political action committee after the state left Cardano out of its stablecoin plans.</li>
 <li>Security: On September 18, a stream on Cardano's YouTube channel showed a deepfake, a fake video made to look like a real person, of Hoskinson promoting a crypto scam. It posed as a Project Catalyst meeting, part of Cardano's community funding program, and ran nearly two hours with a QR code on screen. Hoskinson warned on X that the IOG YouTube account appeared compromised and told users not to trust its videos or links. He said the team was working with YouTube to take it down and reset credentials.</li>

<h2 id="span-span-strong-what-do-the-latest-ada-numbers-show-strong-span-span">What Do The Latest ADA Numbers Show?</h2>
Coingecko ADA at $0.2397 on September 21, up 9.4% in 24 hours, with a market cap of $8.9 billion. That is 92.49% below its all-time high of $3.099 from September 2, 2021.
The Dijkstra era is Cardano's next major upgrade. Its first phase adds Ouroboros Linear Leios, a throughput upgrade. Intersect targets Q4 2026 for code completion. The mainnet window is December 5, 2026 to January 4, 2027 at moderate confidence, or February 24 to March 26, 2027 at high confidence.

Hoskinson's record includes a peer-reviewed protocol, sponsored university research, and a governance system where DReps, SPOs, and a Constitutional Committee vote on upgrades and spending. That system rejected a request tied to his own firm.
