Coinbase has restored the Coinbase Wallet name to its self-custody app, replacing the Base App branding as the product leans hard into trading. The official app listing now reads "We're now Coinbase Wallet," and it promotes spot trading, perpetual futures and prediction markets in one place.
The change ends a roughly one-year experiment. Coinbase renamed the same app to Base App in July 2025, crypto.news reported on September 10, 2026. For everyday users, the headline is simple. The app you may have known as Base App now carries the familiar Coinbase Wallet name again. The rebrand shows up on Coinbase's official Android listing, now titled "Coinbase Wallet: Trade to Win." Its release notes state plainly: "We're now Coinbase Wallet. Trade, earn, send. All in one place."
This is a self-custody wallet. That means you control your own keys, crypto, NFTs and DeFi activity, rather than Coinbase holding them for you.
The exact date the branding flipped is not confirmed. The Google Play page shows a September 3, 2026 update date, but that does not prove when the visible name changed.
The naming change traces back to earlier turmoil. A July 16, 2026 crypto.news report attributed the retreat from social features to Jesse Pollak, noting that app leadership was being returned to Coinbase while Pollak focused on the Base blockchain itself.

Base App shifts toward trading

The relaunched app puts trading front and center. Its description promotes multichain spot trading, perpetual futures and prediction markets.
Spot trading works across several networks named in the listing, including Base, Solana, Robinhood Chain, BNB, Ethereum and Monad. The listing names these networks but does not confirm an exact total count.
Here is an important distinction. Base App is the product; Base is the underlying blockchain. The naming change affects the app, not the chain.
Coinbase Wallet does not swap tokens itself. Third-party decentralized exchange aggregators, which are services that route trades across many venues, power the spot trading, according to the listing.
The perpetual futures come from Hyperliquid, a derivatives platform. These contracts cover crypto, stocks and commodities, but they are limited to non-US users in select jurisdictions.
Some figures in secondary reporting go further. According to unconfirmed reports, the integration offers more than 290 perpetual markets and up to 50x leverage, though the official listing did not confirm those numbers.

What the changes mean for Wallet and Base App users

The clearest change is the name. The app you open should now say Coinbase Wallet, and its focus is trading rather than social posting.
No verified evidence shows any change to your balances, custody or account access. You still control your own keys, so treat this as a rebrand plus new trading features, not a move of your funds.
There are real costs and limits worth knowing. Coinbase Wallet sponsors the network fees for sending USDC on Base, but only up to $0.30 per transaction and $2 per user each month.

The app also advertises up to 3.35% APY for eligible USDC holders, subject to change. That reward is unavailable in the EU or Canada, and US users must link a Coinbase account. This sits alongside Coinbase's broader stablecoin push, such as its expansion of Morpho-powered USDC lending to Brazil.
Trading access is not universal either. Perpetual futures exclude US users, a reminder that eligibility depends on where you live, much like the recent shifts when Binance moved to end USDP spot trading and Upbit opened new trading pairs.
For broad context, the wider market mood is upbeat. The crypto Fear & Greed Index read 69, or "Greed," on September 10, 2026, though that gauge does not measure any reaction to this rebrand.
One caution: there is no confirmed data showing the rename boosted users, trading volume or revenue. According to unconfirmed reports, no such outcomes have been established, so do not assume the change moved any price.
The practical takeaway is calm and simple. If you use the app, check that your assets and access look unchanged, learn the trading fees and reward limits before you act, and remember perpetuals may not be available in your country.
