Mina protocol upgrade known as Mesa officially went live on mainnet on September 3, 2026, according to release notes published by o1Labs on GitHub and theofficial Mina Protocol blog.
This Mina protocol upgrade is a crypto news today cuts block production from 180 seconds to a 90-second block time and expands on-chain state capacity for zkApps.
Mina Protocol also confirmed the Mesa mainnet live rollout in apost on X, noting that the Mina blockchain 22kb footprint stays unchanged even as network capacity grows.
For everyday users, the Mina protocol upgrade 90 second blocks change is the most noticeable difference in daily activity.
This (Mina Protocol) also covered this news in a tweet on X, highlighting how the network's small footprint has evolved.

Mina Mesa upgrade explained simply: the Mina Mesa hard fork bundles four Mina Improvement Proposals plus one mechanism change, according to the official o1Labs Mesa release published on GitHub.
Community members have called this the biggest Mina zkApps upgrade to date, since it directly expands what developers can build.

Per Mina Protocol'sofficial documentation, the network upgrade September 2026 followed two milestones.
The Mina protocol mainnet upgrade formally began at the stop transaction slot on September 3 at 10:00 UTC, when upgraded validators started producing empty blocks.
The stop network slot followed at 15:00 UTC, pausing block production across Protocol mainnet infrastructure.
The Mina hard fork September 2026 concluded within hours as the 4.0.0 stable build activated, confirming a clean transition across validator nodes.

MINA price after upgrade held steady rather than spiking sharply, suggesting the market had largely priced in the event ahead of time.
Analysts caution that any coin price prediction after upgrade should be read with caution, since network upgrades do not guarantee price movement, and market direction depends on broader crypto conditions.

Mina Protocol Upgrade Zkapps Benefits, According To Analysts

Market watchers suggest the protocol upgrade zkApps benefits could matter more for developers than traders in the short term.
Faster confirmations and higher state limits may reduce the number of transactions zkApp builders need to split across multiple blocks.
The blockchain upgrade 2026 cycle could also set the stage for future scaling work, though the project has not detailed a fixed roadmap beyond Mesa.
The o1Labs release also rolled out an automated upgrade mode for node operators, simplifying future hard forks.
