Crypto influencer John Squire has reiterated his confidence in XRP after revisiting an earlier warning from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse about the cryptocurrency market’s long-term prospects.
In a post on X, Squire recalled Garlinghouse’s view that the majority of cryptocurrencies would eventually fail, not because the broader crypto industry would collapse, but because many tokens lack a clear reason to exist. Squire emphasized that the projects most likely to remain relevant provide real-world utility.
“Brad Garlinghouse warned years ago that the vast majority of cryptocurrencies wouldn’t survive,” Squire wrote. “Not because crypto would fail. Because most tokens have no reason to exist.”
Squire then connected that view directly to his position on XRP, stating that he is betting on the cryptocurrency because of what he considers its real-world utility.

The video attached to Squire’s post features comments from Garlinghouse in which he explained his outlook on the cryptocurrency sector. Garlinghouse said new markets typically attract many participants to show they can solve problems or meet customer needs.
He then referenced his previous public prediction that “99% of all crypto probably goes to zero.” However, Garlinghouse distinguished between tokens that lack a practical purpose and the smaller group of crypto projects focused on addressing genuine problems.
According to Garlinghouse, the remaining 1% will consist of projects that solve real problems for real customers and can deliver those solutions at scale. He added that this segment could become increasingly important over the coming decades.
The comments form the central basis for Squire’s XRP position. Rather than presenting survival as a characteristic of the entire cryptocurrency market, Garlinghouse’s remarks focus on whether individual crypto projects can establish practical applications and achieve meaningful adoption.

XRP Utility Remains Central to Squire’s Thesis

Squire’s post applies Garlinghouse’s broader assessment to XRP. His argument rests on the view that XRP belongs among the cryptocurrencies with an identifiable use case rather than those created without a clear function.

The post also received responses from other X users who agreed with the emphasis on utility. Cole Gmaen said Garlinghouse had accurately warned about the number of tokens without meaningful purpose while highlighting XRP’s utility. Another user, Youn, similarly said that cryptocurrencies need genuine utility and real-world applications to maintain long-term relevance.
Garlinghouse’s comments do not provide a specific price prediction for XRP. Instead, they establish a broader framework for evaluating cryptocurrencies based on their ability to address real customer needs and operate at scale.
For Squire, that framework reinforces his decision to remain bullish on XRP. His post ultimately centers on the distinction between speculative tokens with limited purpose and crypto networks that he believes can support practical use cases over the long term.
