Payments software provider Volante has connected Ripple's technology to the Federal Reserve's instant payment rail, according to multiple reports.

Volante Technologies has enabled XRP for use within FedNow, the Federal Reserve’s real-time payment system, according to reports published this week. CoinTurk News, CryptoBriefing, and The Cryptonomist each described the integration as connecting Ripple’s payment infrastructure to the federal instant-settlement rail. The reports differ slightly in framing, with one outlet characterizing the integration as already operational rather than pending.

FedNow launched in 2023 as the Federal Reserve’s answer to real-time payments in the United States. It allows banks and credit unions to settle transactions between accounts within seconds, at any hour. Adoption has grown steadily since launch, with hundreds of financial institutions connected to the network. Until now, FedNow has operated largely separate from crypto-native payment rails.

Volante Technologies is a cloud-based payments software company that builds connectivity tools for banks and financial institutions. Its platforms are used to link legacy banking systems with newer payment networks, including instant payment schemes like FedNow. By integrating Ripple’s technology into its infrastructure, Volante would give banks a pathway to use XRP-based settlement alongside traditional FedNow transactions.

Ripple has spent years positioning XRP as a bridge asset for cross-border and institutional payments through its On-Demand Liquidity product. That effort has largely targeted international transfers, where XRP is used to move value between currency pairs without pre-funded accounts. A FedNow connection would extend that use case into domestic, real-time settlement within the U.S. banking system.

The reports do not specify which banks, if any, have activated the XRP capability through Volante’s platform. It also remains unclear whether the integration is limited to pilot testing or available broadly across FedNow’s participant network. Ripple and Volante have not issued a joint statement detailing transaction volumes or specific use cases tied to the update.

The development follows a period of increased attention on how blockchain-based settlement tools might interact with central bank payment infrastructure. Regulators and financial institutions have generally kept crypto assets separate from core payment rails, citing custody, compliance, and volatility concerns. An XRP link to FedNow, even in early form, would represent a notable shift in that posture, assuming the reported integration is confirmed by participating institutions.

What to make of it

Treat Volante's longstanding Ripple integration and its separate FedNow connectivity role as established; treat any claim that XRP is 'enabled,' 'running,' or usable for FedNow settlement as unconfirmed until Volante or the Federal Reserve issues a statement describing an actual shared mechanism between the two.

Market Impact

If confirmed at scale, a working link between XRP and FedNow could increase institutional interest in Ripple's payment products among U.S. banks already connected to the Federal Reserve network. It may also renew attention on XRP's role as a settlement bridge asset beyond cross-border transfers, extending the use case into domestic instant payments.

Market reaction will likely depend on confirmation from Volante, Ripple, or participating banks about the scope of the integration. Traders and institutions typically look for details on transaction volume, bank participation, and regulatory sign-off before treating such integrations as material catalysts.

The reported FedNow integration signals a potential expansion of Ripple's institutional footprint into core U.S. payment infrastructure. Further disclosure from Volante, Ripple, or the Federal Reserve would be needed to clarify the integration's current scale and reach.
