An unknown hacker reportedly spent $38.53 million to buy ETH while Ethereum's price was rising during a broader market rally, a move that has drawn attention across on-chain trackers watching the wallet's activity.

TLDR KEYPOINTS

An address described as an unknown hacker used roughly $38.53 million to buy ETH.

The purchase happened as Ethereum's price rose during a wider market rally.

One transaction does not confirm a lasting trend; follow-up wallet activity is the key thing to watch.

On-chain monitoring service Lookonchain flagged the buy, noting that the wallet, labeled as belonging to a hacker, deployed the funds into ETH as prices climbed, according to a Lookonchain post on X. The account is described as an unknown hacker, and the identity behind the address has not been established. For related coverage, see SOL Eyes $83 Breakout as ARK Buys 3iQ Solana ETF Shares.

The reported buy coincided with upward movement in Ethereum, which trades on public markets tracked on live ETH price data. The timing, buying into strength rather than weakness, is what set the transaction apart for on-chain observers. For related coverage, see The Bitcoin Price Level Where Leveraged Bulls Could Get Whacked.

Why the Timing Draws Trader Attention

Large purchases during a rally tend to attract attention because market participants read sizable whale-style buying as a possible reinforcement of bullish momentum. When a single wallet adds size while prices are already rising, it can feed narratives that demand is broadening. For related coverage, see Bitcoin’s 2 p.m. Fed Risk Signals a Bigger Hawkish Bloc.

That interpretation carries a caveat. A single purchase, even one of this scale, does not confirm a durable trend or guarantee further upside, and the wallet's motives, described only as those of an unknown hacker, remain unclear.

The attention around a wallet linked to illicit activity also echoes wider industry scrutiny of how exploited funds move. Kanalcoin has covered similar wallet-tracking situations, from the Maya Protocol halt after a Bitcoin exploit to disclosures like the XRPL vulnerability report flagging a "Manifest Flood" issue, where on-chain traces became central to the story.

What to Watch After the Buy

The clearest next signal is whether the flagged wallet keeps accumulating ETH or begins to distribute. Continued additions would strengthen the read that this is deliberate positioning; outflows would point the other way.

ETH price reaction is the second watch item. Whether the market holds its rally gains after the buy will tell traders more than the purchase itself, and broader sentiment gauges such as the crypto Fear & Greed Index offer added context on positioning.

For readers tracking how large single wallets interact with momentum, the Lookonchain feed is the observable place these follow-up movements would surface. Beyond that, the story stays narrow: a wallet described as a hacker bought ETH into a rally, and the next confirmable data points are the ones worth waiting for.
