The DATA Network Foundation announced on its official X account that it will extend the lockup period for tokens held by team members, investors, and insiders by an additional 18 months. This adjustment pushes the unlock date for a portion of the supply from August 13, 2026, to February 13, 2028.

What Changes and What Remains the Same

According to the foundation’s statement, the total token supply, individual allocations, vesting terms, and legal ownership remain unchanged. Only the timing of the unlock has been modified. This means that while the lockup extension affects when tokens become available, it does not alter the overall distribution model or the rights of token holders.

The decision aligns with a broader trend in the cryptocurrency industry, where projects often extend lockup periods to signal long-term commitment and reduce selling pressure. In February, the Story Foundation similarly announced a six-month delay to all IP token unlock dates, highlighting a growing practice among blockchain projects to manage market expectations and stabilize token prices.

Implications for the DATA Network Ecosystem

For the DATA Network, extending the lockup period can be seen as a confidence-building measure. By keeping a larger portion of the supply locked for a longer duration, the foundation aims to prevent a sudden influx of tokens that could dilute value or create volatility. This move may reassure current holders and potential investors that the team is aligned with the project’s long-term success.

Market Context and Industry Precedents

Lockup extensions are not uncommon in the crypto space, especially during bear markets or periods of uncertainty. Projects often use such measures to demonstrate commitment and avoid panic selling. The DATA Network’s decision follows a similar path, and the market will likely monitor how this affects trading activity and investor sentiment in the coming months.

Conclusion

The DATA Network Foundation’s extension of team and investor token lockups by 18 months is a strategic move aimed at fostering long-term stability and trust. While the unlock date has been pushed to February 2028, the fundamental structure of the token economy remains intact. As the industry continues to evolve, such decisions will likely play a crucial role in shaping investor confidence and project credibility.
