The last verified message from the account arrived in April 2011. Every few months, a journalist or film crew claims to have found the person behind the name, but every time the coins stay put and the account stays quiet.A return would change that. When a reporter met Back in Paris after the story came out, guards had to be posted outside their windowless meeting room. Move the coins, and the vanished-founder myth ends. Leave them, and a protocol vote settles the pseudonymous figure’s fortune without them.<h2 id="so-what-happens-if-satoshi-returns">So, What Happens if Satoshi Returns?</h2>A name on its own probably won’t move the market. When the Times named Back with 99.5% confidence, BTC traded flat near $72,000, and Back just flat out denied it.The panic lives on the blockchain instead. Thousands of watcher wallets and trading bots already tag Satoshi's addresses through services like Arkham, and a new spend from any of them will almost certainly set off an automated sell-first cascade before a single human has even read the news.A reveal that moves coins would yield a flash crash, probably before the transaction even confirms from the mempool.Two groups will likely collect no matter what. Prediction traders holding the right side of a "Satoshi revealed" market on Polymarket or Kalshi will get paid big time.
