Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz surprised XRP community members with an unusual explanation of the XRP Ledger, delivering a detailed lesson on blockchain technology through a poem posted on X that combined humor, technical knowledge, and personal reflections on his career.
According to Schwartz, the verse was written in response to a user who appeared to dismiss the importance of his CTO emeritus title, but the exchange quickly evolved into a broader discussion of his contributions to blockchain technology and the development of the XRP Ledger.
Throughout the poem, Schwartz referenced several important areas of the digital asset industry, including payment rails, custody solutions, stablecoins, decentralized exchanges, automated market makers, and liquidity management, while also highlighting the technical foundations that support these systems.
According to the post, Schwartz used the poem to showcase his understanding of tokenization, derivatives, blockchain security, and market infrastructure, presenting complex concepts in a format that stood out from the typical discussions often seen across the cryptocurrency sector.

Several sections of the poem reflected on Schwartz’s long-standing involvement in cryptocurrency, with the Ripple executive noting that he has spent years explaining blockchain concepts, answering technical questions, and helping users understand the practical applications of digital assets.
The post also revisited the origins of the XRP Ledger, which began in 2011 when Schwartz joined Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto in developing a blockchain network specifically designed to support fast and efficient payments while addressing limitations they identified in Bitcoin.

Their efforts eventually led to the launch of the XRP Ledger in June 2012, creating a network that would later become one of the most recognized blockchain platforms in the digital asset industry.
Shortly after the launch, Schwartz, McCaleb, Britto, and Chris Larsen established NewCoin, which was later renamed OpenCoin before eventually becoming Ripple, the company now closely associated with XRP and XRP Ledger development.
Over the following years, Schwartz remained deeply involved in the company’s technical direction, initially serving as Chief Cryptographer before taking on the role of Chief Technology Officer in 2018 and helping guide multiple phases of XRPL innovation.
In late 2025, Schwartz transitioned from the CTO position to CTO emeritus, although he continues to participate in discussions surrounding XRP Ledger development, blockchain infrastructure, and emerging trends across the cryptocurrency market.

Conclusion

While the post began as a response to a social media comment, it ultimately became a reflection on Schwartz’s journey in cryptocurrency, giving the XRP community an unexpected overview of his experience, expertise, and role in building one of the industry’s longest-running blockchain networks.
