SBI Holdings has launched a new Visa credit card in Japan that lets users automatically convert spending points into cryptocurrency, such as XRP.
RippleXity (@RippleXity), a decentralized news platform built on the XRP Ledger, posted the details. XRP is one of the supported assets, putting it directly inside a mainstream credit card rewards system.

Users select their preferred cryptocurrency during the application process. Once selected, the choice is permanent. Every purchase earns points. Those points automatically convert into the chosen crypto asset. For users who select XRP, daily transactions become a passive accumulation method.
SBI stated that the goal is to help users build crypto assets gradually by accumulating a little each month. The card runs on Visa’s payment infrastructure, giving it immediate access to a wide merchant network across Japan, and expanding the link between Visa and XRP.

XRP Inside a Trusted Payment System

Visa Japan described the card as an innovative bridge between digital assets and trusted payment rails. That positioning is crucial, as XRP is not sitting behind an exchange or a separate trading platform. It is embedded into a rewards structure that millions of everyday consumers already understand.
This design removes a common barrier to crypto adoption. Users do not need to trade or invest actively. They accumulate XRP as a byproduct of their existing spending habits. SBI continues to expand real-world crypto utility, with XRP as a core part of this rollout.

What This Means for XRP Adoption

Inclusion in a Visa-backed credit card product represents a significant step in XRP’s real-world utility. Financial institutions and payment networks have historically been cautious about cryptocurrency integration. SBI has always supported XRP, and the decision to launch this card with XRP included signals growing institutional confidence in the asset.
The card also creates consistent, recurring demand for XRP. Every cardholder who selects XRP generates automatic conversion activity each month. That activity compounds over time across a growing user base.

Japan has established itself as one of the more crypto-progressive markets globally. Regulatory clarity in the region allows financial institutions like SBI to move forward with products that other markets are still debating. This card exists because that environment supports it.

RippleXity noted that this development places XRP directly inside everyday credit card rewards, not just trading apps or exchanges. Consumer-facing products with broad distribution reach a different audience than crypto-native platforms.
Sustained adoption at the consumer level builds a foundation that trading volume alone does not. This will expand XRP’s global reach as more users perform their daily transactions.
