Gold

Precious-metals markets experienced a dramatic correction Tuesday, with spot gold plunging around 6%—its biggest one-day drop since 2013—and spot silver tumbling nearly 9%, marking its deepest slide since February 2021.
This abrupt reversal comes on the back of an extended bull run: both metals had ridden waves of inflation fears, geopolitical unrest and robust central-bank buying into record highs.
Key drivers behind this sharp pull-back include:

Heavy profit-taking now that gold and silver appear technically overheated.

A stronger U.S. dollar, which makes dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for foreign buyers.

Signs of easing in global risk sentiment, including improvement in U.S.–China trade outlook and hopes of a resolution to the U.S. government shutdown. These reduce the “safe-haven” appeal of precious metals.

Despite the sharp drop, gold and silver remain significantly up for the year (gold ≈ 50–60%, silver even more) — meaning this may be a tactical correction rather than a signal of trend reversal.
Analysts suggest that the current move could offer a window for consolidation, where prices stabilise or drift sideways before the next leg of the rally — or possibly mark the start of a longer pause if macro back-drop shifts.
