Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 next week, introducing not only a refined design and performance upgrades but also a security feature specifically designed to safeguard digital assets. For cryptocurrency holders, the device now appears more affordable in Bitcoin and Ethereum terms, even as its dollar price remains unchanged.

Crypto-Focused Security Upgrade

Powered by the new A19 chip, the iPhone 17 integrates a Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) system. This feature is built to detect and block memory-based vulnerabilities, including buffer overflows and use-after-free errors, which are commonly exploited in attacks against crypto wallets.
The inclusion of MIE strengthens defense against private key theft and wallet breaches. As smartphones increasingly serve as financial hubs for storing and managing crypto assets, security expectations are higher than ever. With rising digital asset values, hackers are deploying more advanced methods to target devices and wallets, making Apple’s move a timely one.
“Consumers may not see major price changes, but the cost of developing robust security features like MIE is steadily growing,” industry analysts note.

Stable Pricing vs. Rising Crypto Value

Apple’s pricing strategy shows remarkable consistency. According to CoinGecko data, the iPhone 11 launched at $699 in 2019, the iPhone 12 at $799, and the iPhone 16 at $799. The new iPhone 17 will maintain the $799 price point in 2025.
However, the real affordability shift comes when measured against cryptocurrency values. In Bitcoin terms, the iPhone 17 costs approximately 0.0072 BTC, nearly half of the 0.0140 BTC needed for the iPhone 16 just a year ago. Similarly, the phone now costs about 0.1866 ETH, down from 0.3386 ETH in 2024.
This contrast underscores the interaction between stable hardware pricing and volatile financial markets, further cementing Bitcoin and Ethereum’s role as long-term stores of value rather than purely speculative assets.

The Bigger Picture

Apple’s decision to add crypto-focused protections signals recognition of the growing role digital assets play in global finance. As cryptocurrency adoption rises, companies are being pushed to adapt their products to new security demands.
For users, the iPhone 17 represents both enhanced protection against cyber threats and a device that is increasingly affordable when purchased with crypto. If Apple maintains stable pricing while crypto values climb, the affordability paradox is likely to continue.
