The global digital assets market marked the end of 2024’s first quarter in a bullish mode. The cumulative <a href="https://news.todayq.com/legal-battles-sentencing-shakes-crypto-world-this-week/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">crypto market</a> cap which stood at around $1.66 trillion on January 1, 2024, stands at over $2.7 trillion on April 1, 2024. As per the data, the biggest digital asset entered the year 2024 trading above the $42,000 price level over an anticipated approval of spot crypto <a href="https://news.todayq.com/ark-invests-etf-soars-with-record-inflows-but-blackrock-still-dominates/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Exchange-Traded Fund</a> (ETF) by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).&nbsp;
Since bagging a green light from the Commission, Bitcoin is riding on the highway at full throttle hitting new records. Data shows that it is only two times when BTC dipped below the $40,000 mark after the big acceptance from the SEC.
Bitcoin is trading at an average price of $70,744, at the press time. BTC price has surged by around 71% over the first quarter. The biggest crypto went on to hit its all time high (ATH) of $73,750 on March 14, 2024, depicting the bullish sentiments running in the market. It is now holding a market cap of $1.37 trillion. Ethereum follows BTC 
The biggest altcoin, Ethereum (ETH) followed in the footsteps of Bitcoin as its price also jumped by over 77% in the same period of time. ETH entered the year 2024 trading at $2,025, how it is trading at an average price of $3,550, at the press time.
The biggest altcoin is still down by 27% from its all time high of $4,891 recorded in November 2021 but it still went on to hit the $4,066 level on March 12, 2024. It is important to note that Ethereum is moving ahead to grab an ETF approval.
According to reports, Goldman Sachs had increased client interest in crypto options trading in 2024. This follows the approval of spot bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. The surge is primarily from hedge funds but extends to asset managers and digital asset firms. Goldman offers options trading for bitcoin and ether, alongside CME-listed futures.
It turns out that Solana based meme coins dogwifhat (WIF) and BONK turned out to be the biggest gainers of the first quarters. WIF price is up by 2213% in the last 90 days. However, PEPE is the other major contender in the meme category.
